Racquetball At The Central American And Caribbean Games
Racquetball has been included at the Central American and Caribbean Games since 1990. Over that period Mexican players have dominated the podium, winning gold at every event in Men's and Women's Doubles, and winning gold in Men's and Women's Singles all but two times each. Mexico has also won every gold medal in the Men's and Women's Team events. Venezuela has the second most medals in men's events, while the Dominican Republic has won the second most medals in women's events. There was a playoff in Men's and Women's Singles and Doubles for the bronze medal the first three times racquetball was in the Central American and Caribbean Games, but in 2002 that playoff was eliminated with both semi-finalists awarded bronze medals. Racquetball
Racquetball is a racquet sport and a team sport played with a hollow rubber ball on an indoor or outdoor court. Joseph Sobek invented the modern sport of racquetball in 1950, adding a stringed racquet to paddleball in order to increase velocity and control. Unlike most racquet sports, such as tennis and badminton, there is no net to hit the ball over, and, unlike squash, no tin (out of bounds area at the bottom of front wall) to hit the ball above. Also, the court's walls, floor, and ceiling are legal playing surfaces, with the exception of court-specific designated hinders being out-of-bounds. Racquetball is played between various players on a team who try to bounce the ball with the racquet onto the ground so it hits the wall, so that an opposing team’s player cannot bounce it back to the wall. Álvaro Beltrán (born October 15, 1978), is a Mexican professional racquetball player. Beltrán is the currenInternational Racquetball Federation(IRF) World Champion in Men's Doubles with Daniel De La Rosa, winning the title in 2022 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He was the second man to win both Men's Singles and Men's Doubles at the Racquetball World Championships. His six world titles (1 singles & 5 doubles) tie him for 3rd most in IRF history. Andrés Acuña (born September 11, 1995) is a Costa Rican racquetball player. He is the current World Games champion in racquetball, winning gold at the 2022 World Games, in Birmingham, Alabama. Acuña was runner up at the 2021 International Racquetball Federation (IRF 2021 Racquetball World Championships - Men's Singles, 2021 World Championships in Men's Singles in Guatemala. Junior years - 2009-2014 Acuña played at the IRF World Junior Championships several times. In 2009 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, he was in the semi-finals of Boys U14 singles and doubles. Mario Mercado
Mario Mercado (born January 12, 1995) is a Bolivian-born Colombian racquetball player. He has won several medals for Colombia, highlighted by a silver medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in the men's team event. He has also won on the International Racquetball Tour. Junior years – 2010–14 Mercado was introduced to racquetball at age 10 by his parents. At 14, he stopped playing soccer to concentrate on playing racquetball. The racquetball (Spanish: ''Ráquetbol'') competition at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia is being held from 20 to 28 July 2018 at the Parque de Racquetas La Castellana. Tournament format The 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games racquetball competition has two parts: an individual competition with four divisions: Men’s and Women’s Singles and Doubles, as well as a team competition. The individual competitions will be played first beginning with a group stage played as a round robin. The group stage results used to seed teams for the medal round. The individual competition group stages begin July 20 for three days followed by the medal round with the finals on July 25. The team competition will begin July 26 with the finals on July 28. The racquetball competition at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games was held at the Racquet Complex in Leyes de Reforma Sports Complex in Veracruz, Mexico, from 15 to 24 November. There were individual competitions in men's and women's singles and doubles 15–21 November with men's and women's team competitions on 22–24 November. Mexican players are the incumbent Central American and Caribbean Games champions in all divisions. In 2010, Álvaro Beltrán of Mexico won men's singles, Javier Moreno and Polo Gutierrez of Mexico won men's doubles, Paola Longoria of Mexico won women's singles, and Samantha Salas and Susana Acosta of Mexico won women's doubles.
