Ferenc Puskás (, ; born Ferenc Purczeld; 1 April 1927 – 17 November 2006) was a Hungarian football player and manager, widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time and the sport's first international superstar. A forward, he scored 84 goals in 85 international matches for Hungary and played four international matches for Spain. He became an Olympic champion in 1952 and led his nation to the final of the 1954 World Cup. He won three European Cups (1959, 1960, 1966), ten national championships (five Hungarian and five Spanish Primera División) and eight top individual scoring honors. Known as the "Galloping Major", in 1995 he was recognized as the greatest top division scorer of the 20th century by the IFFHS. The FIFA Puskás Award is an award established on 20 October 2009 by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), at the behest of then-president Sepp Blatter, to be awarded to the male or female judged to have scored the most aesthetically significant, or "most beautiful", goal of the calendar year. The award is in honour of Ferenc Puskás, the striker of Real Madrid during the late 1950s and the 1960s, and central member of the highly successful Hungarian side of the same era. The Ferenc Puskás Stadium ( hu, Puskás Ferenc Stadion), or formerly People's Stadium (''Népstadion'') was a multi-purpose stadium in the 14th district (Zugló) of Budapest, Hungary. It was situated between the Puskás Ferenc Stadion and the Keleti pályaudvar metro stations. It was used mainly for football matches. The stadium, which was an all-seater, in the 2000s had a safe capacity of 38,652, though its original capacity exceeded 100,000. The stadium was closed in 2016 and demolished in 2017 to give place to the Puskás Aréna. History The first plan of a national stadium were drafted as early as 1896 when there were chances that Budapest would host the first modern Olympic Games. Puskás Cup or Puskás-Suzuki Kupa is an international football tournament founded by the Ferenc Puskás Football Academy in Felcsút, Hungary and the Magyar Suzuki Corporation in 2008. The aim of the founders is to establish a club tournament which offers the opportunity for talented young footballers to measure themselves internationally at the U-17 age level and to establish a fitting memorial to Ferenc Puskás. History In 2008 four teams competed for the first ever Puskás Cup trophy which was finally won by La Fabrica, the youth team of Ferenc Puskás's former club Real Madrid C.F. Puskás Aréna is a Soccer-specific stadium, football stadium in the Zugló, 14th district (Zugló) of Budapest, Hungary. The stadium's construction started in 2017 and was finished before the end of 2019. It is an all-seater with a capacity of 67,215. Tivadar Puskás de Ditró (in older English technical literature: Theodore Puskás) (17 September 1844 – 16 March 1893) was a Hungarian inventor, telephone pioneer, and inventor of the telephone exchange. He was also the founder of Telefon Hírmondó. Biography The Puskás family from Ditró (today Harghita County of Romania), was part of the Transylvanian Hungarian nobility. Puskás studied law and later engineering sciences. After living in England and working for the Warnin Railway Construction Company he returned to Hungary. In 1873, on the occasion of the World Exhibition in Vienna, he founded the Puskás Travel Agency, the fourth-oldest in the world and the first travel agency in Central Europe.
