Tajikistan (, ; tg, Тоҷикистон, Tojikiston; russian: Таджикистан, Tadzhikistan), officially the Republic of Tajikistan ( tg, Ҷумҳурии Тоҷикистон, Jumhurii Tojikiston), is a landlocked country in Central Asia. It has an area of and an estimated population of 9,749,625 people. Its capital and largest city is Dushanbe. It is bordered by Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and China to the east. It is separated narrowly from Pakistan by Afghanistan's Wakhan Corridor. The traditional homelands of the Tajiks include present-day Tajikistan as well as parts of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. Paratroopers' Day (Tajikistan)
Paratroopers' Day () is a day celebrating the Tajik Mobile Forces, which is as service branch of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan. It is celebrated on August 4, and has been celebrated on this date since 2007. The holiday was created by the Ministry of Defence. The culture of Tajikistan has developed over several thousand years. Tajik culture can be divided into two areas, Metropolitan and '' Kuhiston'' (Highland). Modern city centres include Dushanbe (the capital), Khudjand, Kulob, and Panjikent. Religion Zoroastrianism had been adopted by Persian emperors as a state religion, and was practiced in Central Asia as well. It eventually declined after the Arab conquests. The largest celebration in Tajikistan to come from the pre-Islamic period is Navruz, which means "New Day". It is held on March 21 or 22, when the cultivation of the land starts. During Navruz, many families visit relatives, throw out old belongings, clean the house, and play field games. Special dishes are also served. Other pre-Islamic Tajik traditions like fire jumping, dancing round the fire, and fighting 'devils' with fire, still occur in the more remote regions. Presidential National Guard
The National Guard (russian: Национальная гвардия Таджикистана; tg, Гвардияи миллии Ҷумҳурии Тоҷикистон), formerly called the Brigade of Special Mission and Presidential Guard, also called the National Guard, is a service branch of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan, under direct command of the President of Tajikistan. Tajik Border Troops
The Border Troops (), also called the Border Service, is the border security force of Tajikistan. Functioning under the State Committee for National Security as part of the Armed Forces, the border guards are trained by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, along with the Afghan Border Police. A higher education college is located in the capital, Dushanbe, the Border Troops Academy, and a Border Troops Training Centre is located south of it, in the Rudaki District. Tajik Internal Troops
The Tajik Internal Troops () are the internal security force of Tajikistan, under the Interior Ministry (VKD). They act as the primary reserve force of the Tajik Armed Forces, and are in charge of homeland defence, along with the Tajik Border Troops. The Internal Troops are led by Major General Negmatullo Kurbanov. Background The first Tajik militia was founded on 7 December 1924, when the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the Tajik Autonomous Republic was formed. A week later on 14 December, Abdullo Yarmukhamedov was appointed the first People's Commissar for Internal Affairs. On 5 February 1925, 33 NKVD officers were transferred from Tashkent to Dushanbe, where they would be stationed permanently as part of the NKVD division in Dyushambe the next day. Tajik Mobile Forces
The Mobile Forces ( tg, Қӯшунҳои Зудамали) are the paratroopers of the armed forces of Tajikistan. They are similar to the Russian Airborne Troops, whom they often train with. The Mobile Forces act as an elite special forces unit, subservient to the Defense Ministry and separate from the ground forces. Although they are called paratroopers, the Mobile Forces often deployed out of helicopters, as the Tajik Air Force has few fixed wing aircraft. History On 2 August 1997, the 7th Airborne Assault Battalion was formed. It was the first airborne brigade to be formed in the country. About half of the brigade's officer corps, served during the Tajikistani Civil War. In September 2003, the Mobile Forces were created. It was formed from all the airborne units (including the battalion), as well as the special forces, mountain rifle units and some other subunits. Eid Al-Adha
Eid al-Adha () is the second and the larger of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam (the other being Eid al-Fitr). It honours the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to Allah's command. Before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, however, Allah provided him with a lamb which he was supposed to kill in his son's place because of his willingness to sacrifice his own son in the name of God. In commemoration of this intervention, animals are ritually sacrificed. Part of their meat is consumed by the family which offers the animal, while the rest of the meat is distributed to the poor and the needy.
