Protected areas or conservation areas are locations which receive protection because of their recognized natural, ecological or cultural values. There are several kinds of protected areas, which vary by level of protection depending on the enabling laws of each country or the regulations of the international organizations involved. Generally speaking though, protected areas are understood to be those in which human presence or at least the exploitation of natural resources (e.g. firewood, non-timber forest products, water, ...) is limited. Mount Nimba
Mount Richard-Molard, also known as Mount Nimba, is a mountain along the border of Ivory Coast and Guinea in West Africa. The highest peak for both countries and the Nimba Range is at . The mountain is a part of the Guinea Highlands, which straddles the borders between the two countries and Liberia. The nearest major settlements are the town Yekepa in Liberia and the towns of Bossou and N'Zoo in Guinea. Toponymy The mountain is named after the French geographer Jacques Richard-Molard, who died in an accident at the mountain site in 1951. Before that it was called Mount Nouon. Geology The mountain is rich in iron ore and cobalt. The mix of iron rich quartzite sheets, schists and granite gneiss have characterised the geological pedogenesis. Ziama Massif Classified Forest
The Ziama Massif is a forested mountain range in Nzérékoré Region of southeastern Guinea. Geography The Ziama Massif extends northeast-southwest, continuing south into Liberia as the Kpo Range. The eastern slopes are drained by the St. Paul River, and the western slopes by the Lofa River; both rivers drain southwest through Liberia to empty into the Atlantic Ocean. The highest points of the massif reach to almost 1,400 meters above sea level. The forested landscape includes valleys, plateaus, rounded ridges, rocky peaks, sheer cliffs and granite outcrops. Flora and fauna The Ziama Massif is part of the Guinean montane forests ecoregion, and harbors a distinct flora and fauna from the surrounding lowlands. Pinselli Classified Forest
{{refimprove, date=June 2016 Pinselly Classified Forest is situated in Mamou Prefecture, south-eastern part of Fouta Djallon Highlands in Guinea. The closest city is Ouré-Kaba. The protected area is characterized by dry montane forests, tall-grassed savanna patches, and dense evergreen vegetation with giant trees in the moist valleys. It is a home for forest elephants, hippopotamuses, and a large diversity of primates and ungulates. Reported species are among others Diana monkey, patas monkey, olive baboon, Western bongo, bushbuck, and red-flanked duiker. In fact, there is a high density of the endangered Western chimpanzee, and this area is a stronghold for the species, together with the nearby Soya Classified Forest.
