Minority-serving Institution
In the higher education system of the United States, minority-serving institution (abbreviated MSI) is a descriptive term for universities and colleges that enroll a significant percentage of students from minority groups. Definition The term MSI is not defined by US federal statute, and accordingly federal agencies do not maintain a listing of MSIs. Most definitions of MSI are based on historical origin and also based on enrollment criteria (typically the percentage of enrolled minorities at a particular school). For example, a report from the U.S. Department of Education on the characteristics of MSIs defined MSI based on either of two separate criteria; 1) legislation (e.g. HBCU, TCU, HSIPBI etc) or 2) percentage of minority undergraduate enrollment based on IPEDS data (i.e. "institutions that enroll at least 25 percent of a specific minority group are designated as “minority-serving” for that group"). Disambiguation The similar term “minority institutions” (MIs ...

Polybenzimidazole Fiber
Polybenzimidazole (PBI, short for poly ,2’-(''m''-phenylen)-5,5’-bisbenzimidazole'') fiber is a synthetic fiber with a very high decomposition temperature. It does not exhibit a melting point, it has exceptional thermal and chemical stability, and it does not readily ignite. It was first discovered by American polymer chemist Carl Shipp Marvel in the pursuit of new materials with superior stability, retention of stiffness, toughness at elevated temperature. Due to its high stability, polybenzimidazole is used to fabricate high-performance protective apparel such as firefighter's gear, astronaut space suits, high temperature protective gloves, welders’ apparel and aircraft wall fabrics. Polybenzimidazole has been applied as a membrane in fuel cells. History Discovery Brinker and Robinson first reported aliphatic polybenzimidazoles in 1949. However the discovery of aromatic polybenzimidazole, which shows excellent physical and chemical properties, was generally credited t ...

Agile Software Development
In software development, agile (sometimes written Agile) practices include requirements discovery and solutions improvement through the collaborative effort of self-organizing and cross-functional teams with their customer(s)/ end user(s), adaptive planning, evolutionary development, early delivery, continual improvement, and flexible responses to changes in requirements, capacity, and understanding of the problems to be solved. Popularized in the 2001 ''Manifesto for Agile Software Development'', these values and principles were derived from and underpin a broad range of software development frameworks, including Scrum and Kanban. While there is much anecdotal evidence that adopting agile practices and values improves the effectiveness of software professionals, teams and organizations, the empirical evidence is mixed and hard to find. History Iterative and incremental software development methods can be traced back as early as 1957, Gerald M. Weinberg, as quoted in " ...

Scrum (development)
Scrum is a framework for project management with an initial emphasis on software development, although it has been used in other fields including research, sales, marketing and advanced technologies. It is designed for teams of ten or fewer members who break their work into goals that can be completed within time-boxed iterations, called ''sprints'', no longer than one month and most commonly two weeks. The scrum team assesses progress in time-boxed daily meetings of 15 minutes or fewer, called daily scrums (a form of stand-up meeting). At the end of the sprint, the team holds two further meetings: one sprint review intended to demonstrate the work done for stakeholders and elicit feedback, and one sprint retrospective intended to enable the team to reflect and improve. Name The term ''scrum'' is borrowed from rugby, where it is a formation of players. The term ''scrum'' was chosen by the paper's authors because it implies teamwork. The software development term ''scru ...

TrueOS
TrueOS (formerly PC-BSD or PCBSD) is a discontinued Unix-like, server-oriented operating system built upon the most recent releases of FreeBSD-CURRENT. Up to 2018 it aimed to be easy to install by using a graphical installation program, and easy and ready-to-use immediately by providing KDE SC, Lumina, LXDE, MATE, or Xfce as the desktop environment. In June 2018 the developers announced that since TrueOS had become the core OS to provide a basis for other projects, the graphical installer had been removed. Graphical end-user-orientated OSes formerly based on TrueOS were GhostBSD and Trident. TrueOS provided official binary Nvidia and Intel drivers for hardware acceleration and an optional 3D desktop interface through KWin, and Wine is ready-to-use for running Microsoft Windows software. TrueOS was also able to run Linux software in addition to FreeBSD Ports collection and it had its own .txz package manager. TrueOS supported OpenZFS and the installer offered disk encryption w ...

PBI Regional Medical Center
The PBI Regional Medical Center was a hospital in Passaic, New Jersey which was located on Boulevard, between Oak Street and Howe Avenue (now home to St. Mary's Hospital). History The building was the original home of the General Hospital Center at Passaic, or Passaic General for short. The PBI in the name came from the former Passaic Beth Israel Hospital, which was located on Parker Avenue. Shortly after Atlantic Healthcare Systems, which owned Passaic General, sold the hospital, Passaic General began to have financial trouble. To consolidate, both Passaic General and Beth Israel were merged into one hospital system, which became known as PBI Regional, and consolidated their operations to the Boulevard building (Beth Israel Hospital was subsequently demolished, 2005). The financial struggles continued for PBI after the merger, and eventually the hospital was taken over by the St. Mary's system, which moved their operations to the site and reduced Passaic to one hospital where ...

Parallel Bus Interface
The Parallel Bus Interface, or PBI, is a 50-pin port found on some Atari 8-bit XL computers. It provides unbuffered, direct connection to the system bus lines (address, data, control), running at the same speed as the 6502 CPU. The 600XL and 800XL computers, along with the unreleased 1400XL and 1450XLD had a PBI interface. The Enhanced Cartridge Interface, or ECI, was a modified version of the PBI designed to be smaller and less expensive to implement. Many of the pins in the PBI were duplicated in the 30-pin cartridge slot, so ECI was limited to only those 14 pins in the PBI that were not in the cartridge slot. Placed side-by-side on the back of the computer, devices plugged into both at the same time to provide the same electrical interface as the PBI. The ECI was found on the 65XE (late production units only), the 130XE and the 800XE. Details The PBI is implemented as a rectangular 50-pin edge connector on the back of XL machines. The pins include all 16 address lines (A0 thr ...
