Nymphalinae
The Nymphalinae are a subfamily of brush-footed butterflies (family (biology), family Nymphalidae). Sometimes, the subfamilies Limenitidinae, and Biblidinae are included here as subordinate tribe (biology), tribe(s), while the tribe Melitaeini is occasionally regarded as a distinct subfamily. Their phylogenetics can be traced back to the Cretaceous Terrestrial Revolution after the K-T boundary, Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) mass extinction, followed by repeated dispersals into the rest of the Old World and the New World during various periods beginning in the Eocene. Systematics The traditionally recognized tribes of Nymphalinae are here listed in the presumed phylogenetic sequence:See references in Savela (2010) * Coeini (six or seven genera) * Nymphalini – anglewings, tortoiseshells and relatives (about 15 genera, two are fossil) * Kallimini (about five genera) * Victorinini (four genera, formerly in Kallimini) * Junoniini (about five genera) * Melitaeini – fritillar ...

It is found in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Bioko, Cameroon, Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, Angola, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania. The habitat consists of forests. Adults are attracted to sucking-trees and sometimes also to fallen fruit and banana-baited traps. The larvae feed on ''Brillantaisa'' species. Melitaeini
Melitaeini are a group of brush-footed butterflies. Usually classified as a tribe of the Nymphalinae, they are sometimes raised to subfamily status as Melitaeinae. Common names include the highly ambiguous fritillaries (also used for some Heliconiinae), checkerspots, crescents, or crescentspots, and some genus-specific names. Genera The 20–25 genera of Melitaeini are divided among five subtribes; some species are also listed. The subtribes, in the presumed phylogenetic sequence, are:See references in Savela (2010) Subtribe Euphydryina * ''Euphydryas'' – fritillaries, checkerspots Subtribe Melitaeina * '' Melitaea'' – fritillaries (including ''Didymaeformis'', ''Mellicta'') Subtribe Chlosynina * '' Antillea'' Higgins, 959/small> * '' Atlantea'' Higgins, 959/small> * '' Chlosyne'' – checkerspots, patches * '' Dymasia'' Higgins, 1960 * '' Higginsius'' Hemming, 1964 (tentatively placed here; Gnathotrichina?) * ''Microtia'' Bates, 1864 * '' Poladryas'' Ba ...

Victorinini
Victorinini is a tribe (biology), tribe of Nymphalidae, brush-footed butterflies. The four butterfly genera contained in this tribe are ''Anartia'', ''Metamorpha'', ''Napeocles'', and ''Siproeta''. Those genera were previously included in the Kallimini tribe. In the early 2000s, molecular phylogenetics determined that Kallimini encountered a paraphyly with regard to the Melitaeini. There is also some indication that the genus ''Siproeta'' could be paraphyletic with regard to ''Napeocles''. Brush-footed Butterflies
The Nymphalidae are the largest family of butterflies, with more than 6,000 species distributed throughout most of the world. Belonging to the superfamily Papilionoidea, they are usually medium-sized to large butterflies. Most species have a reduced pair of forelegs and many hold their colourful wings flat when resting. They are also called brush-footed butterflies or four-footed butterflies, because they are known to stand on only four legs while the other two are curled up; in some species, these forelegs have a brush-like set of hairs, which gives this family its other common name. Many species are brightly coloured and include popular species such as the emperors, monarch butterfly, admirals, tortoiseshells, and fritillaries. However, the under wings are, in contrast, often dull and in some species look remarkably like dead leaves, or are much paler, producing a cryptic effect that helps the butterflies blend into their surroundings. Nymphalini
Nymphalini is a tribe (biology), tribe of nymphalid Nymphalidae, brush-footed butterflies. Common names include Admiral (other)#Other uses, admirals, anglewings, Polygonia, commas, and Aglais, tortoiseshells, but none of these is specific to one particular genus. The name anglewing butterflies is an English translation of a Latin term ''papiliones angulati'', [Michael Denis, Denis & Ignaz Schiffermüller, Schiffermüller], ([1775, 1776]). Based on an overall similarity in the angulate wing shape, a collective name: ''Papiliones angulati'' was employed for ''Papilio atalanta'', ''P. antiopa'', ''P. cardui'', ''P. c-album'', ''P. io'', ''P. polychloros'', ''P. urticae'', ''P. xanthomelas'', ''P. vaualbum'', ''P. levana'' and ''P. prorsa''. The term ''papiliones angulati'' is applied as a collective taxon name, which therefore needs no type species as specified in Article 42.3.1 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. ''Papiliones angulati'' has thus been re-d ...

''Lithodryas'' is a prehistoric genus of butterflies in the family Lycaenidae. It was introduced as a replacement for Samuel Hubbard Scudder's genus ''Lithopsyche'', which is invalid as a homonym, as another fossil lepidopteran genus had been described under the same name shortly before Scudder established his genus. The type species In International_Code_of_Zoological_Nomenclature, zoological nomenclature, a type species (''species typica'') is the species name with which the name of a genus or subgenus is considered to be permanently taxonomically associated, i.e., the spe ... was found in Latest Eocene-aged deposits at Florissant.
