New York State Route 32
New York State Route 32 (NY 32) is a north–south state highway that extends for through the Hudson Valley and Capital District regions of the U.S. state of New York. It is a two-lane surface road for nearly its entire length, with few divided and no limited-access sections. From Harriman to Albany, it is closely parallel to Interstate 87 (I-87) and U.S. Route 9W (US 9W), overlapping with the latter in several places. NY 32 begins at NY 17 on the outskirts of the New York metropolitan area in Woodbury just outside Harriman, and ends at NY 196 east of Hudson Falls just south of the Adirondacks. In between, the road passes through the cities of Newburgh, Kingston, Albany, Cohoes, and Glens Falls. John Matthews (soda Water Manufacturer)
John Matthews (1808–1870) was an English-born American inventor and soda water manufacturer. He is known as "The Soda Fountain King". Matthews manufactured carbonating machinery and distributed his product through retail stores. The equipment was a lead-lined cast-iron box where carbonic acid gas was formed by mixing sulphuric acid with marble dust. The gas was then purified by passing it through water, and then into a tank partially filled with cool water. The tank was rocked for a quarter to a half hour, until the water was impregnated and bubbly. Matthews created a fountain apparatus that could be positioned on a pharmacist's counter to dispense carbonated drinks, leading to its popularization and rapid growth. He is buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York. His monument was designed by Karl Muller and cost $30,000. When it rains, excess water drains from the gargoyles' mouths. DuBois Stone House
The DuBois Stone House is located at 347 West Main Street, in Catskill, New York, on the west side of Catskill Creek. It was built in 1762 by Huybartus DuBois and Cornelius DuBois, sons of Benjamin DuBois, one of the original white settlers of the area. It is significant for its late 18th-century architecture and as the home of Huybartus DuBois and his family. After passing out of the DuBois family, the house was owned by the Washburn Brick Company, and the Union Free School District Number 1. In the 1940s it was used as a classroom for Home Economics. Later, it was used as administrative offices. New Baltimore is the primary hamlet in the town of New Baltimore, Greene County, New York, United States. It is a census-designated place (CDP), first listed as such prior to the 2020 census. The New Baltimore Hamlet Historic District occupies the historic core of the hamlet. New York State Route 144
New York State Route 144 (NY 144) is a state highway in the Capital District of New York in the United States. The highway runs for as a two-lane road from an intersection with U.S. Route 9W (US 9W) in the Greene County town of New Baltimore to a junction with NY 32 in the town of Bethlehem just south of the Albany city limits. NY 144 closely parallels the New York State Thruway ( Interstate 87 or I-87) and the west bank of the Hudson River as it heads across Albany County. The Thruway and NY 144 connect at exit 22 about south of Albany in Bethlehem. Catskill is a town in the southeastern section of Greene County, New York, United States. The population was 11,298 at the 2020 census, the largest town in the county. The western part of the town is in the Catskill Park. The town contains a village, also called Catskill. The village of Catskill has a well-defined Main Street. There is a public boat launch on the Hudson River called Dutchman's Landing. Hunter is a town located in Greene County, New York, United States. The population was 2,732 at the time of the 2010 census. The town contains three villages, one named Hunter on the west , another is Lanesville on the southern side of Hunter, and the third called Tannersville the largest and center of the town. Windham is a town in Greene County, New York, United States. The population was 1,703 at the 2010 census. The town was probably named for the town or county of Windham, Connecticut, as many of its earliest settlers came from that state as well as other parts of New England. Coxsackie is a village in Greene County, New York, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. The village name comes from the native word ''mak-kachs-hack-ing''.
