National Geographic Partners, LLC is a joint venture between the Walt Disney Company (which owns 73% of the company) and the namesake non-profit scientific organization National Geographic Society (which owns 27%). The company oversees all commercial activities related to the Society, including magazine publications and television channels. The company's board of managers is evenly divided between the Society and Disney. The enterprise was originally established by 21st Century Fox and the National Geographic Society. Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc., which did business as 21st Century Fox, was an American multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate based in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It was formed on June 28, 2013, as the legal successor to News Corporation, while the second News Corporation was formed the same day as a spin-off. 21st Century Fox was the legal successor to News Corporation dealing primarily in the film and television industries. Gary Knell
Gary Evan Knell (born 27 February 1954) is a senior advisor at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in Media and Social Impact. He was previously the Chairman of National Geographic Partners. Formerly, he was president and CEO of the National Geographic Society. He joined National Geographic as chief executive in January 2014. He has been a member of the Society's board of trustees since April 2013 and has been on the board of governors of the National Geographic Education Foundation since November 2003. From 2011 to 2013, he was president and CEO of National Public Radio (NPR). Prior to that, he was CEO of Sesame Workshop from 2000–2011. National Geographic Society Headquarters
The National Geographic Society Headquarters is a historic complex of buildings located in Washington, D.C. The complex was constructed in phases beginning in 1904 in order to house the offices and museum of the National Geographic Society, a scientific and educational nonprofit institution that has been headquartered in Washington since its 1888 founding. The historical portion of the site consists of three buildings: the 1904 original structure Hubbard Hall, the adjoining Administration Building, part of which was constructed from 1912–13 and the rest in 1932, and the 1963–64 Stone Building.
