Merzalben
Merzalben is a municipality in Südwestpfalz district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, western Germany, deriving its name from the Merzalbe, also known as the Merzalb, that flows through the village. Along with 5 other '' Ortsgemeinden'' ("local municipalities") Merzalben belongs to the '' Verbandsgemeinde Rodalben'' ("collective municipality of Rodalben") in Südwestpfalz, wherein it is the largest in terms of physical area, but the smallest in terms of population. The municipality contains several distinct natural and cultural landmarks, with the earliest known records dating back to 1237. It was also considered a state-approved tourist resort (German: '' Fremdenverkehrsort'') before the title was dropped in Rhineland Palatinate in 2016 and all communities awarded the designation were barred from its use in 2020. Weißenberg (Frankenweide)
The Weißenberg in the Palatine Forest is a hill in the municipality of Merzalben (Südwestpfalz county, Rhineland-Pfalz). Merzalbe
The Merzalbe, also called the Merzalb, is a stream, over long, in the Western Palatinate in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is an orographically right tributary of the Rodalb. In its upper reaches it is also called Mühlgraben. Course The Merzalbe rises in the middle of the Palatine Forest, west of the Palatine Watershed and between the two hills of the Weißenberg and the Eschkopf at a height of just under 500 metres. Its source is enclosed by the Christelbrunnen well. As it heads in a southwesterly direction the Merzalbe flows through the valley below the village of Leimen and then through Merzalben. After it empties from the right into the Rodalb near the Riegelbrunnerhof, a hamlet belonging to Münchweiler. Its waters then flow down the Schwarzbach, Blies, Saar and Moselle before finally reaching the Rhine. Südwestpfalz is a district (''Kreis'' or more precise ''Landkreis'') in the south of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from west clockwise) Saarpfalz, the district-free city Zweibrücken, the districts Kaiserslautern and Bad Dürkheim, the district-free city Landau (the Taubensuhl/Fassendeich forest part of the city), Südliche Weinstraße, and the French ''département'' Bas-Rhin. Gräfenstein Land
Gräfenstein Land (german: Gräfensteiner Land) is a landscape region in the Palatinate (region), Palatinate, part of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is almost coincident with the collective municipality of Verbandsgemeinde Rodalben, Rodalben. Location and adjacent areas The "''Land''" lies in the southwest of the Palatine Forest, northeast of the city of Pirmasens, and is a component of the Palatinate Forest Nature Park, with a maximum elevation above sea level of 550 metres. The region is bounded in the west by the link road from Pirmasens, Rodalben and the River Schwarzbach (Blies), Schwarzach to Waldfischbach-Burgalben. Hortenkopf
The Hortenkopf is a hill, 606 metres above sea level (NN), in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, which lies in the middle of the Palatine Forest between Hofstätten and Leimen. The Hortenkopf is recognisable from a long way off thanks to the transmission tower that has been erected on its summit. Geography and access The hill is part of the Frankenweide, a centrally-located massif within this range of low mountains. The Palatine Watershed runs over its summit. The Hortenkopf is the second southernmost of a row of four peaks that reach a height of over 600 metres. To the south is the Weißenberg (610 m) near the hamlet of Hermersbergerhof in the municipality of Wilgartswiesen. To the north are the Mosisberg and the Eschkopf (jeweils 609 m). Palatine Watershed
The Palatine Watershed (german: Pfälzische Hauptwasserscheide) forms the main drainage divide in the Palatinate between the Upper Rhine and the Middle Rhine, the two successive sections of the river Rhine that flow through the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In the southern and central Palatine Forest the effect of the Palatine Watershed is especially clear.
