Men's Pan American Challenge
The Men's Pan American Challenge is a quadrennial international men's field hockey competition in the Americas organized by the Pan American Hockey Federation. The tournament serves as the qualification tournament for the next Men's Pan American Cup (field hockey), Men's Pan American Cup. The tournament was created in 2011 when the PAHF created a tiered system with the Pan American Challenge as the second tier below the Pan American Cup. The first edition was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 2011 Men's Pan American Challenge
The 2011 Men's Pan American Challenge was the first edition of the Men's Pan American Challenge. It was held between 31 July and 7 August 2011 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, simultaneously with the 2011 Women's Pan American Challenge, women's tournament. Three teams competed in a Round-robin tournament, double round-robin tournament. Uruguay men's national field hockey team, Uruguay won the tournament for the first time, finishing top of the pool above Brazil men's national field hockey team, Brazil and Paraguay men's national field hockey team, Paraguay who won silver and bronze respectively. 2021 Men's Pan American Challenge
The 2021 Men's Pan American Challenge was the third edition of the Men's Pan American Challenge, the quadrennial qualification tournament for the Men's Pan American Cup (field hockey), Men's Pan American Cup organized by the Pan American Hockey Federation. The tournament was held alongside the 2021 Women's Pan American Challenge, women's tournament in Lima, Peru from 26 September to 2 October 2021. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held from 27 June to 5 July 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament was postponed and on 4 February 2021 the current dates were announced. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. Men's Pan American Cup (field Hockey)
The Men's Pan American Cup is a men's international field hockey competition organised by the Pan American Hockey Federation. The winning team becomes the champion of the Americas and qualifies for the FIH Hockey World Cup. Argentina has won the tournament four times. Canada and Cuba have both won the tournament once. The hosts together with six highest-ranked teams from the previous edition are qualified directly for the tournament, they are joined by the top team from the Men's Pan American Challenge or the top two teams if the host is already qualified. 2015 Men's Pan American Challenge
The 2015 Men's Pan American Challenge was the second edition of the Men's Pan American Challenge. It was held between 3 and 11 October 2015 in Chiclayo, Peru, simultaneously with the women's tournament. Brazil won the tournament for the first time after defeating Venezuela 1–0 in the final. Uruguay won the bronze medal by defeating Guyana 3–2 in a penalty shoot-out following a 2–2 draw. The top two teams also qualified for the 2017 Pan American Cup. Chiclayo

Penalty Shoot-out (field Hockey)
A penalty shootout is a method used in field hockey to decide which team progresses to the next stage of a tournament (or wins the tournament) following a tied game. Two methods have been used: the original penalty stroke competition is a best-of-five penalty strokes with sudden death if scores were level after five strokes. An alternate penalty shoot-out competition was introduced at major tournaments in 2011.
