Meconema Meridionale
''Meconema meridionale'' is an insect in the family Tettigoniidae, known as the southern oak bush cricket. It commonly measures 14 to 17 mm in length (not including Antenna (biology), antennae) and is carnivorous, arboreal and nocturnal. It has a more southerly distribution than its relative, ''Meconema thalassinum'', being found in southern France, southwestern Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, the former Yugoslavia and, since 2001, the United Kingdom. It is a predator of the horse-chestnut leaf miner, ''Cameraria ohridella''. It is considered a species of least concern on the IUCN Red List as it is "widespread and common, and the population size is very large". References External links

Tettigoniidae
Insects in the family (biology), family Tettigoniidae are commonly called katydids (especially in North America) or bush crickets. They have previously been known as "long-horned grasshoppers". More than 8,000 species are known. Part of the suborder Ensifera, the Tettigoniidae are the only extant (living) family in the superfamily Tettigonioidea. Many species are Nocturnality, nocturnal in habit, having strident mating calls and may exhibit mimicry or camouflage, commonly with shapes and colours similar to leaves.[] Etymology The family name Tettigoniidae is derived from the genus ''Tettigonia'', of which the Tettigonia viridissima, great green bush cricket is the type species; it was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. In Latin ''tettigonia'' means a kind of small cicada, leafhopper; it is from the Greek τεττιγόνιον ''tettigonion'', the diminutive of the imitative (onomatopoeic) τέττιξ, ''tettix'', cicada. All of these names such as ''tettix'' with repeat ...

Meconema Thalassinum (35596939843)
''Meconema thalassinum'' is an insect in the family Tettigoniidae known as the oak bush-cricket and drumming katydid. It is native to Europe, including the British Isles, and was introduced to the United States, first established in the west of Long Island and extending its range to Rhode Island and Scarsdale, Stony Brook, and Ithaca, New York. Description ''M. thalassinum'' is a small bush cricket, reaching long, including the female's long ovipositor, although the antennae may reach a further in length. It lives in the foliage of trees, including oaks. Males attract females by making an almost inaudible noise by drumming on leaves . Females lay eggs singly under the bark of trees. Nymphs usually emerge in late-spring and reach maturity by late-summer. Unlike other bush crickets, ''M. thalassinum'' is carnivorous. It feeds on smaller invertebrates such as larvae and caterpillars. Parasites '' Spinochordodes tellinii'' and ''Meconema thalassinum'' ''Meconema thalas ...
