Mayor
In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Worldwide, there is a wide variance in local laws and customs regarding the powers and responsibilities of a mayor as well as the means by which a mayor is elected or otherwise mandated. Depending on the system chosen, a mayor may be the chief executive officer of the municipal government, may simply chair a multi-member governing body with little or no independent power, or may play a solely ceremonial role. Johan Ludwig Mowinckel
Johan Ludwig Mowinckel (22 October 1870 – 30 September 1943) was a Norwegian statesman, shipping magnate and philanthropist. He served as the 16th prime minister of Norway during three separate terms. Biography Johan Ludwig Mowinckel was born in Bergen, Norway. His parents were Johan Anton Wilhelm Mohr Mowinckel (1843–1918) and Edvardine Magdalene Margrethe Müller (1851–71). His father was a merchant and a member of one of Bergen's old merchant families. He was educated at University of Oslo, graduating in 1889. After graduation, he traveled abroad to Bremen and London to better learn the business of shipping. In 1893 he returned to Bergen and joined the offices of Christian Michelsen. In 1912, he became the founder and principal in the joint-stock shipping company, A/S J. Ludwig Mowinckels Rederi. Klaus Hanssen (23 May 1844 - 19 December 1914) was a Norwegian physician and politician for the Liberal Party and the Coalition Party. He was born in Bergen, a son of merchant Claus Hansen and Elisabeth Schram, and was a brother of Gerhard Armauer Hansen. Christian Michelsen
Peter Christian Hersleb Kjerschow Michelsen (15 March 1857 – 29 June 1925), better known as Christian Michelsen, was a Norwegian shipping magnate and statesman. He was the first prime minister of independent Norway and Norway's 9th prime minister from 1905 to 1907. Michelsen is most known for his central role in the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905, and was one of Norway's most influential politicians of his time. John Theodor Lund
John Theodor Lund (9 October 1842 – 8 January 1913) was a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party. Background Lund was born in Bergen, Norway. He was the son of Eilert Theodor Lund (1815-1893) and Ellen Albertine Knutsen (1816-1883). Lund was a co-owner and editor of the newspaper ''Bergens Tidende'' which was founded in 1868. He was elected to the city council of Bergen in 1879 and was mayor from 1888 to 1890. Lund was chairman of the Norwegian Constitution Day committee of Bergen from 1876 until his death in 1913. From 1896 he was manager of Norges Bank office in Bergen. Political career He was a local politician in Bergen for thirty years before becoming a member of parliament from 1883 to 1885 and from 1892 to 1900.
