Sylvia Park is a large business park and shopping centre in the Auckland suburb of Mount Wellington in New Zealand. Less commonly known, the area around the centre (which includes some residential and other commercial developments) is also called Sylvia Park (the centre takes its name from the area, not vice versa, but Sylvia Park is not officially a suburb). Panmure Basin
The Panmure Basin (traditionally known in Māori as Kaiahiku or Te Kopua Kai-a-Hiku), also sometimes known as the Panmure Lagoon, is a tidal estuary within a volcanic crater or maar in New Zealand's Auckland volcanic field. It is located to the south of Panmure town centre. Geology The volcano erupted approximately 25,200 years ago. During the Last Glacial Maximum, the basin was a freshwater lake. When sea-levels rose, the estuarine waters of the Tāmaki River breached the lake, turning it into a tidal estuary. A small scoria cone is found in the centre of the basin, obscured by layers of mud. History The traditional name of the basin was Te Kai a Hiku. It features in traditional Tāmaki Māori stories as the eating place of the taniwha Moko-ika-hiku-waru. Mutukaroa / Hamlins Hill Regional Park
Mutukaroa / Hamlins Hill Regional Park is a regional park situated in the Auckland suburb of Penrose in New Zealand's North Island. It is situated in Maungakiekie-Tāmaki, north-east of the Manukau Harbour and west of the Tāmaki River. The park is owned and operated by Auckland Council. Geography Mutukaroa / Hamlin Hill is the largest non-volcanic hill on the Auckland isthmus. It is formed from Waitemata sandstone, surrounded by much younger volcanic deposits. The hill is 65 metres high. The regional park is predominantly made up of two European farms, Hamlin's Farm and Penrose Farm. Maungarei (officially known as Maungarei / Mount Wellington) is a 135-metre volcanic peak and Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountain) located in the Auckland volcanic field of Auckland, New Zealand. Southdown, New Zealand
Southdown is an industrial suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. The main company in the suburb was the former Southdown Freezing Works, part of a large industrial zone located near the North Island Main Trunk railway line. The buildings were decommissioned during the 1980s and 1990s, releasing large areas of land to be redeveloped as office parks. For many years the abattoirs located here were discharging large amounts of untreated waste into the Manukau Harbour. Oranga is a small residential suburb in Auckland, New Zealand. It is located nine kilometres to the southeast of the city centre, between the commercial suburbs of Te Papapa and Penrose to the south and east, and the residential suburbs of One Tree Hill and Onehunga to the north and south.
