The Maio Island League is a regional championship played in Maio Island, Cape Verde. The competition is organized by the Maio Regional Football Association (Associação Regional do Maio de Futebol, ARMF). The winner of the championship plays in Cape Verdean football Championships of each season. Since 2015, the last place club relegates and Beira-Mar was the first club to be relegated. About the Island/Regional League The competition was founded around 1990 and was the last inhabited island without its own regional championships. They started out with six clubs, later it was increased to seven clubs which was the tenth most in the nation. From 2011 to 2015, it was shared with Brava having the second fewest clubs in Cape Verde which was also the ninth most. For several seasons, the league featured seven clubs and played for a total of 12 rounds. Maio is the easternmost of the Sotavento islands of Cape Verde. Maio is located south of the island of Boa Vista and east of Santiago. Administratively, the island forms one ''concelho'' (municipality): Maio. History The island was discovered in 1460. It was first settled at the end of the 16th century, when the land was used to raise livestock, especially goats. Salt was first exploited in the 17th century which caused the population to grow. The English exported salt to Europe from Porto Inglês, hence the name of that city.História

Maio Champion's Cup
The Maio Champion's Cup or the Maio Champion's Trophy (Portuguese: ''Taça da Campeões de Maio'', Capeverdean Creole: ALUPEK: ''Tasa da Kampionis di Maiu'') is a single knockout football (soccer) competition that is played each season in the island of Maio, Cape Verde. The competition features the champion from the Premier Division and the champion of the Second Division. The trophy competition is organized by the Maio Regional Football Association (Associação Regional do Maio, ARFM). Its current winner is Onze Unidos who won their only title. The Champion's Cup (or Trophy) was introduced in 2016. The Maio Island Opening Tournament (Portuguese: ''Torneio de Abertura da Boa Vista'', Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Turnéu di Abertura di Bubista''), is an opening tournament competition (equivalent to a league cup) played during the season in the island of Boa Vista, Cape Verde The competition is organized by the Boa Vista Regional Football Association. Some seasons featured rounds of one portion, some seasons featured three rounds and two groups with the top club of each group in the final match. It currently consists of seven rounds, a meeting with another club once. The winner with the most points (sometimes in the final) is the winner. The first edition took place in 2000 and was the second regional competition after the championships. Barreirense was the first winner, Académico 83 is the recent winner won in 2013. The Maio Super Cup (Capeverdean Creole: Super Taça de Djarmai) is a regional super cup competition played during the season in Maio Island, Cape Verde. The competition is organized by the Maio Regional Football Association (Associação Regional do Maio de Futebol, ARMF). Its current champions is Académico 83 do Porto Inglês. The regional champion competes with the cup champion. If a champion also has a cup title, a cup club who is runner-up qualifies.
