Barreirense Futebol Clube (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Barrerensi'') is a sports club in Maio Island, Cape Verde based in the village of Barreiro in the south of the island and mainly plays in the stadium in the southeast of Cidade do Maio. Barreirense is the third most successful football (soccer) club on Maio having won about 5 official regional titles. Since the implementation of the Second Division in 2015, Barreirense are now the five unrelegated clubs of the island. History The club was founded on 18 October 1977, not long after the nation's independence. Their first title was an opening tournament title won in 2001. Barreirense celebrated its 25th anniversary of its foundation in 2002. Maio Premier Division
The Maio Island League is a regional championship played in Maio Island, Cape Verde. The competition is organized by the Maio Regional Football Association (Associação Regional do Maio de Futebol, ARMF). The winner of the championship plays in Cape Verdean football Championships of each season. Since 2015, the last place club relegates and Beira-Mar was the first club to be relegated. The Maio Island Opening Tournament (Portuguese: ''Torneio de Abertura da Boa Vista'', Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Turnéu di Abertura di Bubista''), is an opening tournament competition (equivalent to a league cup) played during the season in the island of Boa Vista, Cape Verde The competition is organized by the Boa Vista Regional Football Association. Some seasons featured rounds of one portion, some seasons featured three rounds and two groups with the top club of each group in the final match. It currently consists of seven rounds, a meeting with another club once. The winner with the most points (sometimes in the final) is the winner. The first edition took place in 2000 and was the second regional competition after the championships. Barreirense was the first winner, Académico 83 is the recent winner won in 2013. The Maio Island Cup (Portuguese: ''Taça (Copa) da Ilha do Maio'', Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Tasa da Idja du Maio or Tasa da Djarmaiu'', Maio Creole: ''Taça d' Djarmai'') is a regional cup competition and is played during the season in the island of Maio, Cape Verde, it consists of all the clubs from all the two regional divisions and are divided into about three rounds, for some seasons, a group stage was featured. The cup competition is organized by the Maio Regional Football Association (Associação Regional do Maio, ARFM). The cup winner competes in the regional super cup final in the following season when a cup winner also wins the championship, a runner-up competes. For several seasons, the winner qualified into Cape Verdean Cup which has been cancelled due to financial and scheduling reasons. 2010 Cape Verdean Football Championships
The 2010 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 31st of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 8 May, slightly later than the last season and finished on 10 July, later than last year. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. It was the second consecutive time that the final featured two clubs from the same island and city, the next time it happened would be five years later. It brought the Capital Rivalry between Sporting and Boavista to the national championships. 2006 Cape Verdean Football Championships
The 2006 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 26th of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 6 May and finished on 2 July, earlier than the last season. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. Sporting Praia won their 5th title and in the following year participated in the 2007 CAF Champions League. No second place club participated in the 2007 CAF Confederation Cup.
