Hugo Pierre Leclercq (; born 30 May 1994), better known by his stage name Madeon (), is a French DJ and music producer from Nantes, currently based in Los Angeles. He initially came to widespread public attention at 17 through a YouTube video, "Pop Culture", where he performed a mash-up of 39 different popular songs in real-time using a Novation Launchpad. It received millions of hits in its first few days of release. Madeon has cited The Beatles and Daft Punk as his greatest musical influences. Madeon's first EP, '' The City'', was released in 2012. His debut studio album, ''Adventure'', was released in 2015, supported by a 22-stop North American tour. In 2019, Madeon released his second album, ''Good Faith'', as part of the Good Faith Live tour. Madeon was ranked at number 105 on ''DJ Mag''s top DJs for 2017. Mark Derek Foster (born February 29, 1984) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the lead singer of the band Foster the People. After struggling to create a successful band in his early 20s, Foster finally had his big break as one of the co-founders of Foster the People in 2009, which he formed alongside his two friends Mark Pontius and Cubbie Fink. The band has since released three studio albums: ''Torches'' in 2011, ''Supermodel'' in 2014, and ''Sacred Hearts Club'' in 2017. The album features contributions and vocals from Callie Day, Spoonface, Audra Mae, James the Human, Brasstracks, and the West Los Angeles Children's Choir. The album was promoted by three singles: " All My Friends", "Dream Dream Dream", and "Be Fine". The album received mixed to positive reviews from critics. Background In late 2016, Leclercq released a joint single with friend and fellow electronic producer Porter Robinson, "Shelter". He took a break from touring in late 2017 and 2018 to work on his second album. Leclercq felt that the sincere style of lyric writing he used for “Shelter” could be incorporated into his Madeon music, and not simply have his music production and songs be a vehicle for other people's stories. ''Adventure'' is the debut studio album by French DJ and record producer Madeon. It was released on 30 March 2015 through popcultur and Columbia Records. The album features talent and vocals from Kyan, Dan Smith from Bastille, Passion Pit, Mark Foster from Foster the People and Aquilo and was produced entirely by Madeon himself. The album was promoted by five singles: "Imperium", "You're On", "Pay No Mind", "Home" and "Nonsense", while the deluxe version also includes "Icarus", " Finale", " The City", "Cut the Kid", "Technicolor" and a bonus track in collaboration with Vancouver Sleep Clinic. The title track was released as a single on 27 August 2012, with an EP release on 8 October 2012, with remixes and alternative versions of his tracks "Finale" and "Icarus". It was released exclusively as a digital download. The EP's title track, "The City", contains uncredited vocals from Zak Waters and Cass Lowe, and an extended mix. Pop Culture (song)
"Pop Culture" is a mash-up song created by Hugo Pierre Leclercq, better known by his stage name, Madeon. The song was recorded on-the-fly by Leclercq, when he was seventeen years old, using samples from 39 popular songs, mixed using software FL Studio controlled with a Novation Launchpad. Leclercq recorded a video of him creating the mix which he uploaded to YouTube on 11 July 2011. The video went viral within a few days, and since has seen more than 56 million views. The video drew attention to Leclercq and would lead to him being signed by Columbia Records and launching his music career.
