Lolland Municipality
Lolland municipality (on the island of Lolland) is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Sjælland in Denmark. According to ''Municipal And Regional Key Figures'' (www.noegletal.dk) it covers a total area of 885.40 km² (341.85 square miles) and has a population of 40,022 (1 March 2022;45.20 inh./sq.km/117.06/sq.mi.). The western part of Guldborgsund Municipality, the southernmost in Denmark, occupies the eastern part of the island (''Østlolland''). The city hall and the seat of the mayor of Lolland municipality is in Maribo while the largest town is Nakskov. There are 25 members from 1. January 2018 - a reduction from 31 members - of the municipal council. The current mayor is a Social Democrat. Nakskov
Nakskov is a town in south Denmark. It is situated in Lolland municipality in Region Sjælland on the western coast of the island of Lolland. The town has a population of 12,495 (1 January 2022). To the west is Nakskov Fjord, an inlet from the Langeland Belt (''Langelandsbælt'') that runs between the islands of Lolland and Langeland. Nakskov Fjord is a wildlife reserve, known for its bird life. History Nakskov is in the inner part of the Western inlet of Lolland, one of the agriculturally richest of the Danish islands. Danish People's Party
The Danish People's Party ( da, Dansk Folkeparti, DPP/DF) is a nationalist and right-wing populist political party in Denmark. It was formed in 1995 by former members of the Progress Party (FrP). The DPP lent its support to the Venstre– Conservative People's Party coalition government that ruled from the general election of 2001 until the 2011 election defeat. While not part of the cabinet, DPP cooperated closely with the governing coalition on most issues and received support for key political stances in return, to the point that the government was commonly referred to as the "VKO-government" (O being DPP's election symbol). Socialist People's Party (Denmark)
The Green Left ( da, Socialistisk Folkeparti, SF) is a democratic socialist political party in Denmark. It was formerly known in English as the Socialist People's Party, the literal translation of its Danish name. History 1959–1969 The SF was founded on 15 February 1959 by Aksel Larsen, a former leader of the Communist Party of Denmark (DKP). Larsen was removed from the ranks of the DKP for his criticism over the Soviet intervention in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Larsen and the new SF sought to form a third way between Denmark's United States-oriented social democracy and Soviet Union–oriented communism, which sought to combine democracy with socialism. Bornholm
Bornholm () is a Danish island in the Baltic Sea, to the east of the rest of Denmark, south of Sweden, northeast of Germany and north of Poland. Strategically located, Bornholm has been fought over for centuries. It has usually been ruled by Denmark, but also by Sweden and by Lübeck. The ruin of Hammershus, at the northwestern tip of the island, is the largest medieval fortress in northern Europe, testament to the importance of its location. Ærø
Ærø () is one of the Danish Baltic Sea islands, and part of the Southern Denmark Region. Since 1 January 2006 the whole of Ærø has constituted a single municipality, known as Ærø Kommune. Before that date, there were two municipalities on the island: Ærøskøbing Kommune in the west and Marstal Kommune in the east. This merger was part of a reform of the public sector with the laws being effective as of 26 June 2005. This merger was allowed to happen one year before the other municipalities merged as there had already been an island-wide referendum with a majority of voters for the merger. Rudbjerg
Until 1 January 2007 Rudbjerg was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') on the southwest coast of the island of Lolland in the former Storstrøm County, southern Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 143 km², and had a total population of 3,432 (2005). Its last mayor was Tom Larsen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was Dannemare. Rudbjerg municipality ceased to exist as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007).
