Vuoristorata
Vuoristorata () is a classic wooden roller coaster located at the Linnanmäki amusement park in Helsinki, Finland. It was built in the winter of 1950 by Linnanmäki's staff on the basis of drawings by Valdemar Lebech, a Danish builder specialising in fairground rides. The construction work was led by the Danish ride operator Svend Jarlström, who at the time owned most of Linnanmäki's rides. Opened on 13 July 1951, Vuoristorata was the largest roller coaster in the Nordic countries and the tallest in Europe at the time. Expected to last up to 15 years, it was originally designed as a temporary attraction for the amusement park, opened in 1950. One of the main reasons for its construction was to attract tourists from the 1952 Summer Olympics held in the city. Linnunrata
Linnunrata eXtra (; previously Linnunrata and Space Express) is an indoor roller coaster located at Linnanmäki in Helsinki, Finland. Originally in 2000–2003 it was known as Space Express, but when Linnanmäki started a new naming policy in 2004, using only Finnish names for its rides, the ride was renamed Linnunrata. Linnunrata means Milky Way in Finnish ( Bird's track/orbit/route). When inside, to get to the roller coaster, you first walk through some space station-style corridors. The actual ride has an outer space style, starting by flashing bright LED lights. The track itself is lined with space-themed miniature models. The ride was renewed for the 2016 season, with the addition of virtual reality headsets that you can wear on board if you wish. The name of the ride was changed to Linnunrata eXtra. Alppiharju ( sv, Åshöjden) is a district of approximately 12,000 inhabitants in the eastern part of the Central major district of Helsinki, Finland. An indoor roller coaster or enclosed roller coaster is a roller coaster built inside a structure. The structure may be unrelated to the ride, or it may be intended solely or primarily for the ride. River Rapids Ride
A river rapids ride (or river rafting ride) is an amusement ride that simulates whitewater rafting. History The river rapids ride concept was proposed by Bill Crandall (general manager of AstroWorld in Houston) and developed by Intamin. AstroWorld introduced the world's first river rapids ride, Thunder River, in 1980 and popularized a concept which can now be found at most major amusement parks. Despite being an incredibly popular attraction, AstroWorld's Thunder River (being a prototype) was initially plagued by issues that were corrected in the first few seasons of operation. The boat bumpers were re-designed, portions of the wide river channel were narrowed or barricaded to prevent boats from bottle-necking or getting caught in a backflow, and a planned whirlpool effect was scrapped.
