Lefkada (, ''Lefkáda'', ), also known as Lefkas or Leukas (Ancient Greek and Katharevousa: Λευκάς, ''Leukás'', modern pronunciation ''Lefkás'') and Leucadia, is a Greece, Greek list of islands of Greece, island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece, connected to the mainland by a long causeway and Pontoon bridge, floating bridge. The principal town of the island and seat of the municipality is Lefkada (city), Lefkada. It is situated on the northern part of the island, approximately 25 minutes by automobile away from Aktion National Airport. Lefkada City (, ''Póli tis Lefkádas'') is a city and a former municipality on the island of Lefkada, Ionian Islands (region), Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Lefkada, of which it is a municipal unit. It is the capital and main town of the island of Lefkada, located in the northern and northeastern part of the island. The city had a population of 9,253 inhabitants at the 2021 census. Lefkada () is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Ionian Islands. The capital of the regional unit is the town of Lefkada. Kastos
Kastos () is a Greek island and a former community east of the island of Lefkada, Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Lefkada, of which it is a municipal unit. Until 1974, when it became part of the Lefkada Prefecture, the island was administered under the Cephalonia Prefecture ( Ithaca province). The nearest island is Kalamos, with a deep channel between them; the mainland is approximately to the northeast in Aetolia-Acarnania. Geography The island has only one village, the homonymous Kastos, located on its east coast. It has a population of about 40, involved mainly in tourism services, as well as fishing. Kalamos (island)
Kalamos (Greek: Κάλαμος, known in antiquity as Κάρνος – ''Karnos'') is a mountainous island and a former community in the Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Lefkada, of which it is a municipal unit. It lies east of Lefkada, near the Greek mainland. It has a wintering population of around 500 people, which is swelled substantially in the summer by tourists. The name '' Kalamos'' means reed in Greek and the presence of this plant along its coastline in the past may have given its name. Another version is that the island had several beaches with good sand (Kali Ammos in Greek) hence the name given. The land area is , and its highest point is above sea level. Nidri
Nydri () is a town and a community on the eastern coast of the island of Lefkada, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit Ellomenos. The community includes the small village Rachi. The Greek National Road 42 ( Vasiliki - Lefkada (city) - Amfilochia) passes through the town. Nydri is a popular tourist town. Meganisi
Meganisi (Greek language, Greek: Μεγανήσι, literally "big island") is a Greece, Greek island and Communities and Municipalities of Greece, municipality immediately to the east-southeast of the island of Lefkada. The municipality includes the offshore islands of Skorpios (pop. 2 persons) and Sparti (island), Sparti. The municipality has an area of 22.356 km2. The island has three villages: the central village of Katomeri and the ports of Vathy, Meganisi, Vathy and Spartochori. There is also a harbour at Atheni Bay used mainly by fishing boats. Meganisi is connected with Lefkada by a car ferry service from Vathy and Spartochori. Meganisi has a school, a lyceum (middle school), an ATM, churches and a few squares (''plateia, plateies''). Skorpios
Skorpios or Scorpios (, ) is a private island in the Ionian Sea off the western coast of Greece and just to the east of the island of Lefkada. The 2011 census reported a population of five inhabitants. Administratively it is part of the municipality of Meganisi in Lefkada regional unit. Geography The island, spanning 83.2 hectares (roughly 205 acres), is irregularly shaped, with main axes about and . It is heavily forested from south to north and features over 200 varieties of trees imported to the once nearly barren island by Aristotle Onassis.
