Regional County Municipality
The term regional county municipality or RCM (''french: municipalité régionale de comté, MRC'') is used in Quebec, Canada to refer to one of 87 county-like political entities. In some older English translations they were called county regional municipality. Regional county municipalities are a supralocal type of regional municipality, and act as the local municipality in Unorganized area#Quebec, unorganized territories within their borders. The system of regional county municipalities was introduced beginning in 1979 to replace the List of former counties of Quebec, historic counties of Quebec. In most cases, the territory of an RCM corresponds to that of a Census geographic units of Canada, census division; however, there are a few exceptions. Saint-Denis-de-Brompton, Quebec
Saint-Denis-de-Brompton is a municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec, part of the Regional County Municipality of Le Val-Saint-François, within the larger administrative region of Estrie. It is located approximately 145 kilometres east of Montreal. The municipality is located in a densely wooded area on the shores of Lake Brompton. History The region was still little frequented at the beginning of the 19th century when the township of Brompton was proclaimed in 1801 on the lands of the county of Buckinghamshire. The parish of Saint-Denis-de-Brompton was founded in this township in 1922. Its name pays homage to Father Joseph-Denis Bellemare, parish priest of Saint-François-Xavier-de-Brompton. On March 6, 1935, the parish municipality of Saint-Denis-de-Brompton was created by detachment of the municipalities of Brompton, Orford, Saint-François-Xavier-de-Brompton and Saint-Élie-d'Orford. Lawrenceville, Quebec
Lawrenceville is a Village municipality in the Le Val-Saint-François Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. It is situated west of Sherbrooke, near the Black River. Around 650 Lawrence villagers are counted in an area of 17 square kilometers. History The name of the village honors Mr. Henry Lawrence, son of Isaac Lawrence who originally came from Canaan, Connecticut, and moved to Shefford Township in 1794 settling his family near Lake Waterloo between Fulford and Waterloo. In 1800 the township of Stukely was created, and Henry and his brother Erastus became Samuel Willard's associates and both moved to South Stukely in 1804. Erastus died 8 years later. In 1836 Henry Lawrence moved to the northern part of Stukely and built a sawmill and flourmill on an island which became part of Lawrenceville. Kingsbury, Quebec
Kingsbury is a village municipality (Quebec), village municipality located in the Le Val-Saint-François Regional County Municipality of Quebec, Quebec's Estrie region. It is completely surrounded by the township municipality (Quebec), township municipality of Melbourne, Quebec, Melbourne. The village is known for the lake and forest trails that encircle it, and the views from the mountain tops. Kingsbury is also the hometown to 1993 world champion pair skater Isabelle Brasseur. History In its early history, a train track cut through the village, but now the villagers' houses stand in its place. Kingsbury is most famous for its slate quarry which was an important industry during the 19th century. Men were hired from Wales and Cornwall to come to work the quarry where first-class slate was mined. This slate was sent all over the world.
