La Haute-Côte-Nord Regional County Municipality
La Haute-Côte-Nord () is a regional county municipality in northeastern Quebec, Canada, in the Côte-Nord region. It is located on the Gulf of St. Lawrence where the Saguenay River flows into it. The seat is Les Escoumins. The municipality has a land area of and its population was 10,278 inhabitants as of the 2021 census. Its largest community is the city of Forestville. Except for Sacré-Coeur, which is located along the Saguenay River, all places and municipalities of the RCM are along Quebec Route 138 directly on the shores of the St. Lawrence River. The unorganized territory of Lac-au-Brochet makes up some 83% of the interior part of the RCM. The term regional county municipality or RCM (, , MRC) is used in Quebec, Canada to refer to one of 87 county-like political entities. In some older English translations they were called county regional municipality. Regional county municipalities are a supralocal type of regional municipality, and act as the local municipality in Unorganized area#Quebec, unorganized territories within their borders. The system of regional county municipalities was introduced beginning in 1979 to replace the List of former counties of Quebec, historic counties of Quebec. In most cases, the territory of an RCM corresponds to that of a Census geographic units of Canada, census division; however, there are a few exceptions. Sacré-Coeur, Quebec
Sacré-Cœur () is a municipality in the Côte-Nord region of the province of Quebec in Canada. In addition to the main namesake population centre, the municipality also contains the following hamlets and localities: Chicoutillette, L'Anse-Creuse, L'Anse-de-Roche, Le Trou, Rivière-Sainte-Marguerite, History Colonization of the area began in 1840 when families settled illegally in Rivière-Sainte-Marguerite. After 1842 settlement was encouraged but the communities remained isolated. Its post office opened in 1884 under the name Dolbeau (changed in 1927 to Sacré-Cœur–Saguenay). This is a list of the regional county municipalities (RCM or MRC) and equivalent territories (TE) in the province of Quebec, Canada. They are given along with their geographical codes as specified by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy, and the administrative regions to which they belong. RCMs are county-like units of government at the supralocal level. However, not all municipalities belong to an RCM. In order to use RCMs for statistical purposes, some municipalities (mostly Indian reserves) are viewed as belonging to RCMs they do not belong to legally. The possibly enlarged RCMs are called ''municipalités régionales de comté géographiques'' (MRCG) as opposed to the legal ones known as ''municipalités régionales de comté juridiques'' (MRCJ). Essipit
Essipit (known as Les Escoumins until 1996) is an Innu Indian reserve in the Canadian province of Quebec, located on the north shore of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence in the Côte-Nord region. It belongs to the Innue Essipit First Nation. The reserve is named after the historical name of the Escoumins River, that around 1664, was known as ''Esseigiou''. Charles Arnaud, who spent many years of his life among the Montagnais stated that the river was also called ''Etshipi'', meaning "river of shells". History The Montagnais have frequented the place for thousands of years, gathering berries that covered the rocks and adorned the mossy plains in the spring. The Jesuit Relations reported on the presence of "Excomminquois" in the region since 1611. It presented them however as an enemy nation of the French and distinguished them from the Montagnais of the region who were recognized as friends. Tadoussac () is a village municipality in La Haute-Côte-Nord RCM (Regional County Municipality), on the north shore of the maritime section of the estuary of St. Lawrence river, in Côte-Nord region, Quebec, Canada. Geography Tadoussac is located in a bay on the north shore of the lower estuary of the St. Lawrence River, at the mouth of the Saguenay River fjord. Portneuf-sur-Mer, Quebec
Portneuf-sur-Mer () is a municipality in the Côte-Nord region of the province of Quebec in Canada. The municipality is located at the mouth of the Portneuf River on the St. Lawrence River. The municipality was known as Sainte-Anne-de-Portneuf prior to January 31, 2004. Longue-Rive () is a municipality located on the north shore of the maritime estuary of the St. Lawrence River, in Côte-Nord region, Quebec, Canada. Les Bergeronnes () is a municipality in the Côte-Nord region of the province of Quebec in Canada. The municipality includes the communities of Grandes-Bergeronnes, Petites-Bergeronnes and Bon-Désir.
