Kolkata Metropolitan Area (abbreviated KMA; formerly Calcutta Metropolitan Area), also known as Greater Kolkata, is the urban agglomeration of the city of Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the third most populous metropolitan area in India after Delhi and Mumbai. The area is administered by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). Kanchrapara
Kanchrapara is a city and a municipality of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal.It is also known as the mini Kolkata of West Bengal. History From early historical period, geographically, this area had been full of swamps, natural riverine lake, low land, water bodies sparse village-settlements surrounded by deep jungle infested with wild animals of all kinds. Kamarhati
Kamarhati is a city and a municipality of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is close to Kolkata and also a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). History Kamarhati was earlier a part of North Suburban Municipality. In 1881-82 it was renamed Baranagar Municipality and Kamarhati became a part of it. In 1899, Kamarhati was separated from Baranagar Municipality and Kamarhati Municipality came into existence. Halisahar
Halisahar is a city and a municipality of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). History Halisahar is believed to have existed from the early Middle Ages. It was earlier named ''Kumarhatta''. It had also been the residence of Pachu Shakti Khan, the cavalry commander of Humayun. Dum Dum
Dum Dum is a city and a municipality of Kolkata district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a part of Kolkata urban area and also a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). Etymology During the 19th century the area was home to the Dum Dum Arsenal, a British Royal Artillery facility. Chandernagore Municipal Corporation
Chandernagore Municipal Corporation or CMC is the local government that governs the city of Chandannagar in Chandannagore subdivision of Hooghly district, West Bengal, India. History Chandannagore Municipality was established in 1955, as per the Chandannagore Municipal Act, 1955 (WB Act XVIII of 1955). It became Chandannagore Municipal Corporation in 1994 as per the Chandernagore Municipal Corporation Act, 1990 (West Bengal Act XXXII of 1990).
