Kings Of Dál NAraidi
The Kings of Dál nAraidi were rulers of one of the main kingdoms of Ulster and competed with the Dál Fiatach for the overlordship of Ulaid. The dynasty resided at Ráith Mór, east of Antrim in the Mag Line area and emerged as the dominant group among the Cruthin of Ulaid. In the sixth and seventh centuries the Cruthin were a loose confederation of petty states with the Dal nAraidi emerging as the dominant group in the 8th century. Ulster
Ulster (; ga, Ulaidh or ''Cúige Uladh'' ; sco, label= Ulster Scots, Ulstèr or ''Ulster'') is one of the four traditional Irish provinces. It is made up of nine counties: six of these constitute Northern Ireland (a part of the United Kingdom); the remaining three are in the Republic of Ireland. Áed Aired
Áed Aired (died 698) or Áed Airdd or Áed Airech was a Dal nAraide king of the Cruithne in Ulaid (Ulster). He ruled from 690-698. In the 6th and 7th centuries the Dal nAraide were part of a confederation of Cruithne tribes in Ulaid (Ulster) and were the dominant members. He was a member of the Uí Dercu Chéin sept which resided in the Lagan river valley on the borders of modern County Down and Antrim. The annals call him King of Dal nAraide at his death obit whereas the normal title used during this time was King of the Cruithne. The annals record his death at the Battle of Telach Garraisc in Fernmag (Farney, County Monaghan) along with Conchobar Macha mac Máele Dúin, King of the Airthir (an Airgialla tribe of modern County Armagh) in 698. Ailill Mac Dúngaile Eilni
Aillil mac Dúngaile Eilni (died 690) was a Dál nAraidi king of the Cruthin in Ulaid, an over-kingdom in medieval Ireland. He was the son of Dúngal Eilni mac Scandail (died 681), a previous king. He ruled from 682-690. In the 6th and 7th centuries the Dál nAraidi were part of a confederation of Cruthin tribes in Ulaid and were the dominant dynasty. Ailill belonged to a branch of this family settled in Eilne, a plain between the Bann and Bush rivers in modern-day County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He is styled "King of the Cruithne" in the ''Fragmentary Annals' of Ireland''. Cathassach mac Máele Cáich (died 682) or Cathassach mac Máele Dúin' was a Dal nAraide king of the Cruthin. He was the son of Máel Cáich mac Scannail (died 666), a previous king. He ruled from 681 to 682. In the 6th and 7th centuries the Dal nAraide were part of a confederation of Cruthin tribes in Ulaid and were the dominant members. Dúngal Eilni mac Scandail (died 681) was a Dál nAraidi king of the Cruthin. He ascended to this position some time after 668. He was the son of Scandal mac Bécce (died 646), a previous king. In the 6th and 7th centuries the Dál nAraidi were part of a confederation of Cruthin tribes in Ulaid, an over-kingdom in Ireland, and were the dominant dynasty. Dungal belonged to a branch of this family settled in Eilne, a plain between the Bann and Bush rivers in modern-day County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He is styled "King of the Cruithne" in the annals. He was the son of Fiachnae mac Báetáin (died 626) a king of all Ulaid and possible high king and brother of Eochaid Iarlaithe mac Lurgain (died 666), a King of the Dal nAraide.
