Island
An island or isle is a piece of land, distinct from a continent, completely surrounded by water. There are continental islands, which were formed by being split from a continent by plate tectonics, and oceanic islands, which have never been part of a continent. Oceanic islands can be formed from volcano, volcanic activity, grow into atolls from coral reefs, and form from sediment along shorelines, creating barrier islands. River islands can also form from sediment and debris in rivers. Artificial islands are those made by humans, including small rocky outcroppings built out of lagoons and large-scale land reclamation projects used for development. Islands are host to diverse plant and animal life. Oceanic islands have the sea as a natural barrier to the introduction of new species, causing the species that do reach the island to evolve in isolation. British English
British English is the set of Variety (linguistics), varieties of the English language native to the United Kingdom, especially Great Britain. Synonyms
A synonym is a word, morpheme, or phrase that means precisely or nearly the same as another word, morpheme, or phrase in a given language. Isle, Minnesota
Isle is a city in Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 803 at the 2020 census, up from 751 in 2010. History A post office called Isle has been in operation since 1896. The city was named for the island near its harbor on Mille Lacs Lake. Geography Isle is in northeastern Mille Lacs County, along Isle Harbor at the southeasternmost extent of Mille Lacs Lake. Minnesota Highway 27 and Minnesota Highway 47 are two of the main routes in the community. Highway 27 leads southwest to Wahkon and to Onamia, while Highway 47 leads north up the east shore of Mille Lacs Lake to Malmo. Together, the two highways leave Isle to the southeast, with Highway 27 leading east to Woodland and Highway 47 leading south to Ogilvie. River Isle
The River Isle (also known as the River Ile) flows from its source near Combe St Nicholas, through Somerset, England and discharges into the River Parrett south of Langport near Midelney. Several small springs merge into the river near Wadeford it then flows north past Donyatt, Ilminster, Puckington, and Isle Abbotts, before joining the Parrett. The first section of the river falls in and then falls less steeply falling during the subsequent . As a result, several mills were built on the upper reaches of the river. At least one mill was in existence at the time of the Domesday Book in 1086. These mills were an important part of the local economy connecting with the wool trade. Conleth Seamus Eoin Croiston Hill (born 24 November 1964) is a Northern Irish actor. He has performed on stage in productions in the UK, Ireland, Canada and the US. The International Society for the Linguistics of English (ISLE), founded in 2008, is a learned society of linguists. The organization's goals are to promote the study of the English Language at an international level, with a particular focus on the structure and history of standard as well as the many non-standard varieties of English, examining both their form and function.
