Iraq Division One
The Iraq Division One is the second-highest division of the Iraqi football league system after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. It is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). Each season, the two top-finishing teams in the Division One are automatically promoted to the Premier League. The four lowest-finishing teams in the Division One are relegated to Division Two. The number of clubs in the league have changed throughout history, most recently in the 2021–22 season when the number of clubs decreased from 28 to 24. It has previously been called the Division Two but has been known as the Division One since 2003. In the 2021–22 season, Al-Hudood won the title and were promoted alongside runners-up Karbalaa. Al-Rasheed SC
Al-Rasheed Sports Club ( ar, نادي الرشيد الرياضي) was an Iraqi sports club based in Karkh, Baghdad. Its professional football team played in the Iraqi Premier League, the top tier of the Iraqi football, from 1984 until 1990. The club's home stadium was Al-Karkh Stadium (then known as Al-Rasheed Stadium). Founded in 1983 by Uday Hussein, the son of Saddam Hussein, Al-Rasheed were promoted to the top tier in their first season of existence and went on to win 3 league titles in the row, 2 FA Cups, 3 Arab Champions Cup titles, and reach the final of the 1988–89 Asian Club Championship. In 1990, the club was dissolved and all its properties as well as its place in the top division were transferred to Al-Karkh SC. Kirkuk Sports Club ( ar, نادي كركوك) is a football club based in Kirkuk, Iraq. The team plays in Iraq Division Three. Kirkuk participated in the Iraqi Premier League for the first time in 1983–84, but was relegated for several seasons to the lower divisions, before returning to the top-flight seasons later. Al-Mosul Sports Club ( ar, نادي الموصل) is an Iraqi football club based in Mosul that plays in the Iraq Division Two. History In the Iraqi Premier League 2007–08 season, Al-Mosul FC withdrew for security reasons. Hence they came back to the Iraqi Premier League without playing in the lower division. Al-Adhamiya Sport Club ( ar, نادي الأعظمية الرياضي) is an Iraqi sports club based in Al-Adhamiyah, Baghdad, whose football team plays in Iraq Division Two. History Early years Al-Adhamiya was founded in 1951 and competed in the Iraq Central FA League from 1957–58 until 1959–60 when they were relegated. Al-Jumhouriya Al-Olympi In 1967, Al-Adhamiya merged with Al-Jumhouriya Al-Olympi to form Markaz Al-Shabab Al-Adhamiya. Al-Jumhouriya Al-Olympi were a club founded in 1934 as Al-Olympi Al-Malaki, later renaming to Al-Malaki in 1943, Al-Jumhouriya in 1958 and Al-Jumhouriya Al-Olympi in 1959. Under the name Al-Malaki, the club had competed in the first edition of the Iraq Central FA League and the first edition of the Iraq FA Cup. Al-Malaki housed the first headquarters of the Iraq Football Association (IFA) in the late 1940s and early 1950s and helped organise the IFA competitions in Baghdad.
