History Of Manaus
The history of Manaus, with over 350 years of existence, coincides with the history of Brazil. The process of European occupation began in the middle of the 16th century, when explorer Francisco de Orellana arrived from Peru and intended to go to Spain. First peoples and European colonization At the time of the Portuguese invasion, the region where the state of Amazonas is now located was part of Spain; however, it was occupied and colonized by Portugal. The period of European settlement in the Amazon began between 1580 and 1640, when Portugal and Spain remained under one crown. The occupation of the place where Manaus is today took a long time, considering that it was difficult to access and the existence of riches (gold and silver) was unknown. Dom Marcos de Noronha e Brito, 8th Count of Arcos, (7 July 1771 — 6 May 1828) was a Portuguese nobleman and colonial administrator, the last viceroy of Brazil. He ruled from 21 August (or 14 October) 1806 to 22 January 1808, when John VI of Portugal, then Prince Regent of Portugal, arrived in the city of Salvador, transferring the seat of the monarchy to Brazil. He had been sent to Brazil to occupy the position of governor and captain general of the provinces of Grão-Pará and Rio Negro. Called back to Rio de Janeiro, he replaced Fernando José de Portugal e Castro as viceroy of Brazil. Solimões () is the name often given to upper stretches of the Amazon River in Brazil from its confluence with the Rio Negro upstream to the border of Peru. Geography The Amazon / Solimões river just above the confluence of the Solimões and Rio Negro is already by far the largest river in the world, even though its two largest tributaries (the Negro and the Madeira River) have not yet contributed to the flow volume. Barcelos, (also Barcellos), formerly Mariuá, is a municipality located in the State of Amazonas, northern Brazil. Its population was 27,638 (2020) and its area is , making it the second largest municipality in Brazil (behind Altamira, Pará), equivalent in size to New York state in the United States and slightly larger than North Korea. The Captaincies of Brazil ( pt, Capitanias do Brasil) were captaincies of the Portuguese Empire, administrative divisions and hereditary fiefs of Portugal in the colony of ''Terra de Santa Cruz'', later called Brazil, on the Atlantic coast of northeastern South America. A catechism (; from grc, κατηχέω, "to teach orally") is a summary or exposition of doctrine and serves as a learning introduction to the Sacraments traditionally used in catechesis, or Christian religious teaching of children and adult converts.
