A green party is a formally organized political party based on the principles of green politics, such as social justice, environmentalism and nonviolence. Greens believe that these issues are inherently related to one another as a foundation for world peace. The Green Party of New Brunswick (french: Parti vert du Nouveau-Brunswick) was formed in November 2008 to run in provincial elections. It is a registered Green political party in New Brunswick, Canada. A founding convention was held on November 15, 2008, in Moncton where the membership adopted a constitution, and a charter of principles to guide the development of policies and platforms. A 12-member Executive Committee was elected. On September 19, 2009, Jack MacDougall was acclaimed as the first nominated leader of the party. A community and political organizer, MacDougall is best known for his successful campaign to raise the money to purchase and renovate Saint John's Imperial Theatre. History The Green party was founded in 1990 following the return to liberal democracy in Czechia following the Velvet Revolution. However, the party remained on the political margins until Jaromír Štětina was able to capture a seat in the Senate (upper house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic) in 2004. Yukon Green Party
The Yukon Green Party (french: Parti vert du Yukon) was a territorial green political party in Yukon, Canada. It was inspired by the Green Party of Canada. Its first leader was Kristina Calhoun, a stay-at-home mother, who has lived in Yukon since 2006. The party began at a meeting in November 2010, and was registered in February 2011. Frank de Jong led the party as its interim leader in the 2016 general election. Its platform in that election included electoral reform, legalizing marijuana, ending public funding for Catholic schools, and introducing a carbon tax in Yukon that would be offset by monthly refund payments to Yukoners.
