Cartago Green Party
The Green Party of Cartago ( es, Partido Verde de Cartago; originally named ''Green Ecological Party'') is a provincial political party in Cartago, Costa Rica. The party follows environmentalist ideas and platform, and is a member of both the Global Greens and the Federation of Green Parties of the Americas. The party also received the endorsement of Costa Rica’s Greenpeace local branch. Founded in September 2004 by journalist Carlos Arrieta and English teacher Rodrigo Arias, among others. Green Politics
Green politics, or ecopolitics, is a political ideology that aims to foster an ecologically sustainable society often, but not always, rooted in environmentalism, nonviolence, social justice and grassroots democracy. 2010 Costa Rican General Election
General elections were held in Costa Rica on 7 February 2010. The ruling party before the election, the center-left National Liberation Party, put forward former Vice-President Laura Chinchilla as its presidential candidate, while the libertarian, Movimiento Libertario nominated former legislator Otto Guevara. Opinion polls before voting started consistently put Chinchilla as the front-runner, a trend confirmed in the election-night count, which showed her garnering 46.76% of the vote. 2016 Costa Rican Municipal Elections
Municipal elections were held in Costa Rica on 7 February 2016, in order to elect the mayors of the 81 Cantons of Costa Rica, cantons of the country plus a proportional number of aldermen (regidores) in each of the canton's municipal councils, a syndic for every district and members of the District Councils and a total of 8 Intendants for districts and islands located too far away from the administrative center. For the first time in history, election of aldermen was held at the same time as the other municipal offices. Until 2010 councilors were elected at the same time as the President of Costa Rica, President and deputies in the general elections but a reform in the Electoral Law made all municipal offices elected at the same time and in the middle of the presidential period. 2006 Costa Rican General Election
General elections were held in Costa Rica on 5 February 2006. In the presidential election, Óscar Arias of the National Liberation Party (Partido Liberación Nacional), a former president and Nobel Peace Laureate, was victorious over Ottón Solís of the Citizens' Action Party (Partido Acción Ciudadana) and twelve other minor-party candidates. Global Greens
The Global Greens (GG) is an international network of political parties and movements which work to implement the Global Greens Charter. It consists of various national Green political parties, partner networks, and other organizations associated with green politics. Formed in 2001 at the First Global Greens Congress, the network has grown to include 76 full member parties and 11 observers and associate parties as of May 2022, so a total of 87 members.
