Gadolinium
Gadolinium is a chemical element with the symbol Gd and atomic number 64. Gadolinium is a silvery-white metal when oxidation is removed. It is only slightly malleable and is a ductile rare-earth element. Gadolinium reacts with atmospheric oxygen or moisture slowly to form a black coating. Gadolinium below its Curie point of is ferromagnetic, with an attraction to a magnetic field higher than that of nickel. Above this temperature it is the most paramagnetic element. It is found in nature only in an oxidized form. When separated, it usually has impurities of the other rare-earths because of their similar chemical properties. Gadolinium was discovered in 1880 by Jean Charles de Marignac, who detected its oxide by using spectroscopy. It is named after the mineral gadolinite, one of the minerals in which gadolinium is found, itself named for the Finnish chemist Johan Gadolin. Pure gadolinium was first isolated by the chemist Paul-Émile Lecoq de Boisbaudran around 1886. Gadolini ...

International Symposium On Graph Drawing
The International Symposium on Graph Drawing (GD) is an annual academic conference in which researchers present peer reviewed papers on graph drawing, information visualization of network information, geometric graph theory, and related topics. Significance The Graph Drawing symposia have been central to the growth and development of graph drawing as a research area: as Herman et al. write, "the Graph Drawing community grew around the yearly Symposia." Nguyen lists Graph Drawing as one of "several good conferences which directly or indirectly concern with information visualization", and Wong et al. report that its proceedings "provide a wealth of information". In a 2003 study the symposium was among the top 30% of computer science research publication venues, ranked by impact factor. History The first symposium was held in Marino, near Rome, Italy, in 1992, organized by Giuseppe Di Battista, Peter Eades, Pierre Rosenstiehl, and Roberto Tamassia. The first two symposia did not pu ...

Gudermannian Function
In mathematics, the Gudermannian function relates a hyperbolic angle measure \psi to a circular angle measure \phi called the ''gudermannian'' of \psi and denoted \operatorname\psi. The Gudermannian function reveals a close relationship between the circular functions and hyperbolic functions. It was introduced in the 1760s by Johann Heinrich Lambert, and later named for Christoph Gudermann who also described the relationship between circular and hyperbolic functions in 1830. The gudermannian is sometimes called the hyperbolic amplitude as a limiting case of the Jacobi elliptic amplitude \operatorname(\psi, m) when parameter m=1. The real Gudermannian function is typically defined for -\infty < \psi < \infty to be the integral of the hyperbolic secant The real inverse Gudermannian function can be defined for -\tfrac12\pi < \phi < \tfrac12\pi as the

Generalized Dirichlet Distribution
In statistics, the generalized Dirichlet distribution (GD) is a generalization of the Dirichlet distribution with a more general covariance structure and almost twice the number of parameters. Random vectors with a GD distribution are completely neutral . The density function of p_1,\ldots,p_ is : \left \prod_^B(a_i,b_i)\right p_k^ \prod_^\left p_i^\left(\sum_^kp_j\right)^\right where we define p_k= 1- \sum_^p_i. Here B(x,y) denotes the Beta function. This reduces to the standard Dirichlet distribution if b_=a_i+b_i for 2\leqslant i\leqslant k-1 (b_0 is arbitrary). For example, if ''k=4'', then the density function of p_1,p_2,p_3 is : \left prod_^B(a_i,b_i)\right p_1^p_2^p_3^p_4^\left(p_2+p_3+p_4\right)^\left(p_3+p_4\right)^ where p_1+p_2+p_3<1 and p_4=1-p_1-p_2-p_3. Connor and Mosimann define the PDF as they did for the following reason. Define random variables z_1,\ldots,z_ with z_1=p_1, z_2=p_2/\left(1-p_1\right), z_3=p_3/\le ...

Gaussian Distribution
In statistics, a normal distribution or Gaussian distribution is a type of continuous probability distribution for a real-valued random variable. The general form of its probability density function is : f(x) = \frac e^ The parameter \mu is the mean or expectation of the distribution (and also its median and mode), while the parameter \sigma is its standard deviation. The variance of the distribution is \sigma^2. A random variable with a Gaussian distribution is said to be normally distributed, and is called a normal deviate. Normal distributions are important in statistics and are often used in the natural and social sciences to represent real-valued random variables whose distributions are not known. Their importance is partly due to the central limit theorem. It states that, under some conditions, the average of many samples (observations) of a random variable with finite mean and variance is itself a random variable—whose distribution converges to a normal distr ...
