Frenship Independent School District is a public school district based in Wolfforth, Texas, United States. In addition to Wolfforth, the district serves western portions of Lubbock and southwestern Lubbock County. A small part of Hockley County also lies within the district. As of the 2021-2022 school year, the district had 10,860 students. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. Lubbock County is a County (United States), county located in the U.S. state of Texas. The 2020 United States Census, 2020 census placed the population at 310,639. Its county seat and largest city is Lubbock, Texas, Lubbock. The county was created in 1876 and organized in 1891. It is named for Thomas Saltus Lubbock, a Confederate States of America, Confederate colonel and Texas Ranger Division, Texas Ranger (some sources give his first name as Thompson). William John Cox
William John "Billy Jack" Cox (born February 15, 1941) is an American public interest lawyer and author. Biography Early career Employed in 1962 by the El Cajon Police Department, he attended the nearby San Diego Police Department Academy. In 1968, Cox transferred to the Los Angeles Police Department where he graduated from the Police Academy. He received an associate degree in Police Administration from Rio Hondo College. In 1974 he was appointed a Deputy Los Angeles County District Attorney. Wolfforth ( ) is a small town located in Lubbock County. The town was named for 2 brothers, George Wolffarth who was a rancher in the area, and Eastin Wolffarth who was Lubbock County Sherriff around 1900. The population was 3,670 at the 2010 census. History Wolfforth was established in 1916, and developed as a railroad town when the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway built through the area. Frenship High School is a public high school located in Wolfforth, Texas, United States. It is classified as a 6A school by the UIL. The school serves students in grades 10–12 from Wolfforth, parts of western Lubbock, and southwest Lubbock County, as well as a small eastern portion of Hockley County. In 2015, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. Naming confusion When Wolfforth School District was unified with three other rural districts (Carlisle, Hurlwood and Foster) in 1935, they applied for the name "Friendship Independent School District".
