Faust (band)
Faust (English: "fist") are a German rock band from Hamburg. Formed in 1971 by producer and former music journalist Uwe Nettelbeck, the group was originally composed of Werner "Zappi" Diermaier (b.1949), Hans Joachim Irmler (b.1950), Arnulf Meifert, Jean-Hervé Péron (b.1949), Rudolf Sosna (b.1946 - d.1996) and Gunther Wüsthoff, working with engineer Kurt Graupner. Their work was oriented around dissonance, improvisation, and experimental electronic approaches, and would influence subsequent ambient and industrial music. They are considered a central act of West Germany's 1970s krautrock movement. History 1971–1975 Faust formed in 1971 in the rural setting of Wümme. They secured a recording contract with Polydor and soon began recording their debut, ''Faust'', which sold poorly but received critical acclaim for its innovative approach and established a devoted fan base. Outside The Dream Syndicate
''Outside the Dream Syndicate'' is a 1973 album by United States avant-garde composer Tony Conrad in collaboration with German krautrock group Faust. The album marks Conrad's first and only musical release for many years, and remains his best known musical work. It is considered a classic of minimalist and drone music. ''Pitchfork'' exclaims "for a moment in Outside the Dream Syndicate, one forgets what exactly is moving and what is standing still." The original LP contained two 26-minute pieces. The album was digitally remastered in 1993 and released on CD by Table of the Elements with an additional 20-minute previously unreleased bonus track. Background In the mid-1960s Tony Conrad was a member of The Dream Syndicate, a United States experimental and drone music group. In New York City Conrad was approached by a filmmaker from Hamburg in Germany who said that he knew a producer in Hamburg who would be interested in Conrad's music. The Faust Tapes
''The Faust Tapes'' is the third album by the German krautrock group Faust, released in 1973. The album sold well in the United Kingdom (60,000 copies) because of a marketing gimmick by Virgin Records that saw it go on sale for the price of a single. This exposure introduced British audiences to Faust. Recommended Records reissued the album on LP in 1980, and on CD in 1996 and 2001, both mastered from vinyl sources. The Recommended LP reissue used a brand new cover design and was packaged in an oversized plastic bag. Neither CD edition included the original LP artwork; the 1996 CD used the cover art from the second "Faust Party 3" extract single as the front cover and the 2001 CD used the cover art from the ''Munich and Elsewhere'' album as the front cover. The Virgin and Recommended LP releases, and the first Recommended CD release had no track titles. In 2021, the German label Bureau B released the box set ''1971-1974'', in editions of 2000 seven LP/two 7" sets and 1000 eight- ...
