FIS Ski Flying World Cup
The FIS Ski Flying World Cup is an annual competition in ski flying, contested as part of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup and organized by International Ski Federation. It should not be confused with the FIS Ski Flying World Championships, which are a separate one-off event contested biennially during the World Cup season, but with points not counting towards it. Four FIS Ski Flying World Championships, World Championships in ski flying organized in FIS Ski Flying World Championships 1992, 1992, FIS Ski Flying World Championships 1994, 1994, FIS Ski Flying World Championships 1996, 1996 and FIS Ski Flying World Championships 1998, 1998 also counted for World Cup points. Planica
Planica () is an Alpine valley in northwestern Slovenia, extending south from the border village of Rateče, not far from another well-known ski resort, Kranjska Gora. Further south, the valley extends into the Tamar Valley, a popular hiking destination in Triglav National Park. Planica is famous for ski jumping. The first ski jumping hill was constructed before 1930 at the slope of Mount Ponca. In 1933, Ivan Rožman constructed a larger hill, known as the Bloudek Giant (''Bloudkova velikanka'') after Stanko Bloudek, which later gave rise to ski flying. The venue was completed in 1934. The first ski jump over in history was achieved at the hill in 1936 by Sepp Bradl. At the time, it was the biggest jumping hill in the world. FIS Ski Flying World Championships 1998
The FIS Ski Flying World Ski Championships 1998 took place on 25 January 1998 in Oberstdorf, Germany for the record-tying fourth time, matching that of Planica, Slovenia. Oberstdorf hosted the championships previously in West Germany in 1973, 1981, and 1988. Japan's Kazuyoshi Funaki would go on to win the gold medal in the individual large hill event at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano nearly three weeks later. As of 2009, he is the only person to win the Ski Flying World Championships and a Winter Olympic gold medal in the same year. Ironwood, Michigan
Ironwood is a city in Gogebic County in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan, about south of Lake Superior. The city is on US Highway 2 across the Montreal River from Hurley, Wisconsin. It is the westernmost city in Michigan, situated on the same line of longitude (90.2 degrees West) as Clinton, Iowa and St. Louis, Missouri. Per Bergerud (born 28 June 1956) is a Norwegian former ski jumper. Career At the 1982 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo, he won a gold medal in the team large hill event. Bergerud reached the peak of his career at the 1985 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld, he won a gold medal in the individual large hill and a bronze medal in the individual normal hill. Vikersund is a town of 3,232 (in 2020) inhabitants in the municipality capital of Modum, in the county of Viken, Norway.
