Northern Cyprus ( tr, Kuzey Kıbrıs), officially the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC; tr, Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti, ''KKTC''), is a ''de facto'' state that comprises the northeastern portion of the Geography of Cyprus, island of Cyprus. North Nicosia or Northern Nicosia ( tr, Kuzey Lefkoşa ; el, Βόρεια Λευκωσία) is the capital and largest city of the ''de facto'' state of Northern Cyprus. It is the northern part of the divided city of Nicosia, and is governed by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality. , North Nicosia had a population of 61,378 and a metropolitan area with a population of 82,539. The city is the economic, political and cultural centre of Northern Cyprus, with many shops, restaurants and shopping malls. Embassy Of Turkey In The Turkish Republic Of Northern Cyprus
The Embassy of Turkey in North Nicosia is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Turkey to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It is located in the Turkish sector of Nicosia which is known as North Nicosia. It is the only diplomatic mission located in Northern Cyprus since only Turkey recognizes them. Other countries have their embassies in the Greek sector of Nicosia and they recognize the Republic of Cyprus's presence in the island. History In June 1925, Consulate of Turkey to Cyprus ( Turkish: ''Türkiye Şehbenderliği'') opened in Larnaca. It was connected to Turkish Embassy in London. Foreign Relations Of Northern Cyprus
Northern Cyprus is recognised only by Turkey, a country which facilitates many of its contacts with the international community. After it was occupied by Turkey, Northern Cyprus' relations with the rest of the world were further complicated by a series of United Nations resolutions which declared its independence legally invalid. A 2004 UN Referendum on settling the Cyprus dispute was accepted by the Turkish Cypriots but rejected by the Greek Cypriots. After that, the European Union declared its intentions to assist in reducing the economic isolation of Northern Cyprus and began giving aid to the territory. However, due to pressure from Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, this aid coming from EU funds cannot be used on Greek Cypriot land and property nor on public bodies. As a result, these funds can be used only on 29 percent of people on the island of Cyprus (those under the ''de facto'' control of Northern Cyprus). This is a list of diplomatic missions of Northern Cyprus. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is recognized only by Turkey, and consequently has only one embassy with ''de jure'' recognition, along with six consulate-generals. However this has not prevented the TRNC authorities from opening representative offices elsewhere. Legally the two representative offices in the United States are in the status of commercial entities and the staff do not have diplomatic visas.
