Cóndores UNAM
The Cóndores UNAM (English: ''UNAM Condors''), was one of the three American football teams that represented the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) from 1970 to 1997. The Cóndores competed in the ONEFA and won 10 National Championships, including four in a row from 1983 to 1986. History Background American football was first played in the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1927, when several students that spent some time in American schools and have played the sport returned to Mexico. The team's first name was Osos (Bears) and navy blue and gold were chosen as the colors, inspired by the colors of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The team's nickname was later changed to Horda Dorada (Golden Horde) and in 1946 head coach Roberto "Tapatío" Méndez chose the Pumas nickname, which since then has been used for all UNAM's representative sport teams, most notably the professional football team. Estadio Olímpico Universitario
Estadio Olímpico Universitario is a multi-purpose stadium located inside Ciudad Universitaria in Mexico City. It was built in 1952 and at that time was the largest stadium in Mexico. This stadium has a capacity of 72,000. The first major event held in the stadium was the 1955 Pan American Games. During the 1950s and the 1960s this stadium was used mostly for college American football matches between the largest Mexican public universities at the time: UNAM and IPN. From the late 1950s it was used for football matches, some American football matches and athletics. American architect Frank Lloyd Wright called it "the most important building in the modern America". The Olímpico Universitario hosted the 1968 Summer Olympics; for the event the seating capacity was increased from 70,000 to 83,700 spectators (without substantially modifying the original structure) to cover the IOC requirements for an Olympic stadium. Club Universidad Nacional, A.C., commonly referred to as UNAM, is a professional football club based in Ciudad Universitaria of Mexico City, Mexico. The National Autonomous University of Mexico ( es, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM), is a public university, public research university in Mexico. It has several campuses in Mexico City, and many others in various locations across Mexico, as well as a presence in nine countries. It also has 34 research institutes, 26 museums, and 18 historic sites. A portion of (University City), UNAM's main campus in Mexico City, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that was designed and decorated by some of Mexico's best-known architects and painters.
