César Charlone (politician)
César Charlone Rodríguez (5 October 1895, in Montevideo – 8 May 1973) was a Uruguayan political figure. Background Charlone was prominent member of the Uruguayan Colorado Party during the 1930s. He was Minister of Finance from 1934 to 1938. Vice President of Uruguay He was Vice President of Uruguay, and served from 1938 to 1943 under President Alfredo Baldomir. At the same time he was President of the Senate of Uruguay. He also held the portfolio of Minister of Finance from 1940 to 1943. Post Vice-Presidency Charlone later served as Foreign Minister of Uruguay from 1949 until 1950 in the government of President of Uruguay Luis Batlle Berres. He was Minister of Economy and Finance 1967–1971 in the Government of President of Uruguay Jorge Pacheco Areco. He died on 8 May 1973, aged 77. The Ministry of Foreign Relations (MRREE; es, Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores) is the ministry of the Government of Uruguay that is responsible for planning, directing and executing the foreign policy and international relations of the Republic. The president of Uruguay ( es, Presidente del Uruguay), officially known as the president of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (), is the head of state and head of government of Uruguay. Their rights are determined in the Constitution of Uruguay. Along with the Secretariat of the Presidency, the Council of Ministers and the director of the Office of Planning and Budget, the President is part of the executive branch. In case of absence, their office is exercised by the vice president. In turn, the president of the republic is the commander in chief of the Armed Forces. The politics of Uruguay abide by a presidential representative democratic republic, under which the President of Uruguay is both the head of state and the head of government, as well as a multiform party system. The president exercises executive power and legislative power and is vested in the two chambers of the General Assembly of Uruguay. The Judiciary is independent from the executive and legislature. José Luis Gabriel Terra Leivas ( Montevideo, 1 August 1873 - Montevideo, 15 September 1942) was a lawyer and politician of batllista origin in Uruguay, and advisor to all Uruguayan governments on diplomatic, Economic and financial issues between 1900 and 1938. He spent part of his childhood and adolescence in his father's ( José Ladislao Terra) farm and studied Law at UDELAR while also specializing in economic and financial science, graduating in 1895.
