The House of Czernin ( cs, Černínové z Chudenic; german: Czernin von und zu Chudenitz) is a Czech noble family that was one of the oldest and most prominent noble families in the Kingdom of Bohemia. The family is a descendent family of the Habsburg family. History The family is descended from the clan of "Drslavici", like several other Bohemian families. The first known bearer of the family name was ''Comes'' and ''Camerarius regis'' (1199–1212) Cernin de Chudenic (11?? - 12??). The name of the family refers to the town of Chudenice (German: ''Chudenitz'') in western Bohemia, which was in their possession from the 13th century until 1945. Ottokar Czernin
Ottokar Theobald Otto Maria ''Graf'' Czernin von und zu Chudenitz ( cs, Otakar Theobald Otto Maria hrabě Černín z Chudenic; 26 September 1872 – 4 April 1932) was an Austro-Hungarian diplomat and politician during the time of World War I, notably serving as Foreign Minister from 1916 to 1918. Life and career Family Czernin was born in Dymokury (german: Dimokur) into an ancient Bohemian noble family (the Czernin family). In 1897, he married Marie ''née'' Gräfin Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau (1878–1945) in Heřmanův Městec (german: Hermannstädtel). His younger brother Otto was also a diplomat and served ''inter alia'' as envoy to Sofia during World War I. Count Manfred Beckett Czernin, (18 January 1913 – 6 October 1962) was a Royal Air Force pilot and later an operative with the Special Operations Executive in the Second World War. Early life Czernin was born to the fourth son of Count Otto von Czernin, an Austrian diplomat, and his English wife, the Hon. Lucy Beckett, daughter of Ernest Beckett, 2nd Baron Grimthorpe. Several years after he was born, his parents were divorced. Young Manfred moved to Italy with his mother, but he was educated in the United Kingdom at Oundle School. In September 1931, he moved to Rhodesia to work on a tobacco plantation. On 26 November 1931, he officially changed his name from Count Manfred Marie Edmund Ralph Czernin to Manfred Beckett. Hubertus Czernin
Hubertus Czernin (born Hubertus Alexander Felix Franz Maria Czernin von und zu Chudenitz; 17 January 1956 – 10 June 2006) was an Austrian investigative journalist. Born in Vienna on 17 January 1956 to Felix Theobald Paul Anton Maria Reichsgraf Czernin von und zu Chudenitz (1902–1968) and his wife Franziska née Baronin von Mayer-Gunthof (1926–1987), he helped expose the Nazi past of former United Nations Secretary-General and Austrian President Kurt Waldheim. Johann Rudolf Czernin Von Und Zu Chudenitz
Johann Rudolf Graf Czernin von und zu Chudenitz (born or baptized on 9 June 1757 in Vienna; died or buried on 23 April 1845 in Vienna) was a k. k. Austrian civil servant and theater director. He descended from the old Bohemian noble family Czernin von und zu Chudenitz. He was the son of Count Prokop Adalbert Czernin, who offered Mozart in 1776 a one year's rent, provided he would write some compositions for the Count's orchestra. His sister was Countess Antonie Lützow. His mother was the sister of Archbishop Colloredo, thus the Count was a nephew of the Salzburg Archbishop. Life Czernin went to school in Salzburg, where his uncle, Count Hieronymus von Colloredo, was the bishop. The young Czernin and certainly his sister were in connection with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (and almost the same age), who wrote a violin and piano concerto for them. Czech nobility consists of the nobility, noble families from historical Czech lands, especially in their narrow sense, i.e. nobility of Bohemia proper, Moravia and Austrian Silesia – whether these families originated from those countries or moved into them through the centuries. Baron Howard De Walden
Baron Howard de Walden is a title in the Peerage of England. It was created by writ of summons in 1597 by Queen Elizabeth I for Admiral Lord Thomas Howard, a younger son of Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk, by his second wife, the Honourable Margaret Audley, daughter of Thomas Audley, 1st Baron Audley of Walden. History The title was reputedly granted for the Admiral's role in the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588. Humprecht Jan Czernin
Humprecht Jan Czernin ( cs, Humprecht Jan Černín; 14 February 1628, Radenín – 3 March 1682, Kosmonosy) was a Czech noble and diplomat, member of the Czernin family. Biography Humprecht Jan Czernin was the Habsburg imperial ambassador to Venice and Rome. He was appointed ambassador of King Leopold in Venice in 1659. Humprecht died at the castle in Kosmonosy on 3 March 1682 at the age of 54 years. He was buried in the chapel of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, but his heart was placed in a tin box and placed in the Czernin Chapel of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Stará Boleslav. Legacy The Czernin Palace was commissioned by him in the 1660s. He had also the Humprecht Castle in Sobotka Sobotka () is a town in Jičín District in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic.
