Czapek & Cie. is a manufacturer of fine Swiss watches founded in 1845 in Geneva.Tellier, Arnaud, & Didier Chaponnière, Mélanie, ''Timepieces for Royalty'', 1850–1910, by ''Patek Philippe'', Geneva, Patek Philippe Museum, 2005 (192 pp.) It is most noted for its bespoke timepieces manufactured for the European nobility in the 19th century. Company Founder Franciszek Czapek was a Czech-born, Polish master watchmaker who arrived in Geneva, Switzerland in May 1832. Soon after, he gallicised his name, thus becoming ''François'' Czapek. In 1834 he created the firm Czapek & Moreau with local Swiss watchmaker Moreau, from Versoix. Czapek medium, also called Czapek's agar (CZA) or Czapek-Dox medium, is a growth medium for propagating fungi and other organisms in a laboratory. It was named after its inventors, Czech botanist Friedrich Johann Franz Czapek (May 16, 1868 – July 31, 1921) and American chemist Arthur Wayland Dox (September 19, 1882 – 1954). It was developed to grow ''Aspergillus niger'' and ''Penicillium camemberti''. It works well for many saprophytic fungi and soil bacteria such as species of ''Aspergillus'', '' Candida'', ''Penicillium'', and ''Paecilomyces''. Elisabeth Czapek
Elisabeth Czapek (24 March 1860 – 21 January 1949) was a Swedish miniature painter. Life Czapek was born in Gothenburg in 1860. She was the daughter of Musical director Josef Czapek and Berta Augustina Haglund. From 1884 to 1892 she was studying at the Académie Julian in Paris. Her miniature paintings included Jean-Paul Marat, George I of Great Britain, Eric XIV of Sweden and Axel Oxenstierna Axel Gustafsson Oxenstierna af Södermöre (; 1583–1654), Count of Södermöre, was a Swedish statesman.
