Cyril Fountain
Sir Cyril Stanley Smith Fountain (born 26 October 1929) is a Bahamian judge and lawyer. Early life and education Fountain got his early education at the Quarry Mission School, the Western Junior and Senior Schools, Johnson's Private School, and then the Government High School, which he completed in 1947. Following his graduation he had a brief athletic career as an opening batsman for the Western Sporting Club. He was also coached in swimming by Orville Turnquest, and under his tutelage went on to win the Prince George Dock–Fort Montagu marathon. He went on to work at the Bahamas Telecommunications Department and other places before leaving the Bahamas to attend St. Benedict's College in Kansas (one of the predecessors of today's Benedictine College). After his graduation in 1953, he returned to the Bahamas and eventually became a teacher, working in various places including the Abaco Islands and West End. The Bahamas (), officially the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, is an island country within the Lucayan Archipelago of the West Indies in the Atlantic Ocean, North Atlantic. Supreme Court Of The Bahamas
The Supreme Court of the Bahamas is the third highest court in the adjudicative hierarchy of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The court was created by Article 93(1) of the Constitution. Before that, the Supreme Court was governed by the Supreme Court Act of 1896. The Neo-Georgian style building which is home to the Supreme Court in New Providence is located on Bank Lane. Ground was broken for the building in 1921 by then Governor of the Colony of the Bahamas, Sir Harry Cordeaux. The courthouse is similar in design to the Central Public Building which is north of the building. Joan Sawyer
Dame Joan Augusta Sawyer, DBE, PC (born 26 November 1940) is a Bahamian judge. She was Chief Justice of the Bahamas from 1996 to 2001 and President of the Court of Appeal of the Bahamas from 2001 to 2010. She was the first woman to ever serve in those two positions. Career As a member of the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn Sawyer was called to the English Bar on 19 July 1973 and to the Bahamas Bar two months later. Her career began in 1958 as a clerk-trainee at what is now the Ministry of Public Works. She was named a Justice of the Supreme Court of the Bahamas on 6 May 1988, and served in that position until 30 June 1995. She returned to the bench on 1 November 1996 as Chief Justice, where she sat until 26 November 2001. She then became President of the Court of Appeal; she retired from that position on 26 November 2010, her 70th birthday, and was succeeded by Anita Allen, the second woman to hold the job.
