Cyril Beavon
Cyril Beavon (27 September 1937 – 22 December 2017) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Oxford United. Career Beavon joined Oxford United from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1959, after failing to make an appearance for their first team. He spent a decade at the Manor Ground, helping the club to the Southern League championship in 1961–62, following which the club was elected to the Football League The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Barnsley () is a market town in South Yorkshire, England. As the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and the fourth largest settlement in South Yorkshire. Michael Stuart Beavon (born 30 November 1958 in Wolverhampton, England) is an English former footballer. Career Tottenham Hotspur Beavon started his football career as an apprentice with Tottenham Hotspur. He then joined the first-team squad in 1978, and spent time on loan at Notts County for the 1979-80 season. Reading Beavon joined Reading in 1980. The Southern League is a men's football competition featuring semi-professional clubs from the South and Midlands of England. Manor Ground, Oxford
The Manor Ground was a football stadium in Oxford, England, the home of Oxford United (previously known as Headington United) between 1925 and 2001. It hosted United's record crowd of 22,750 against Preston North End in an FA Cup 6th Round match on 29 February 1964. The main seating stand was the Beech Road stand (on the west), the 'home' terracing was the London Road stand (south), the 'away' terracing was Cuckoo Lane (north) and on the fourth side was the Osler Road stand (east). In 1966, with the demolition of Sandfield College, a new entrance to the ground was created onto London Road. With the advent of the 1990s and the Taylor Report, the Manor Ground's terracing was rapidly becoming antiquated, and it gained a reputation amongst fans as one of the more dilapidated stadiums in English professional football.
