Cyriel Barbary
Cyrillus-Camillus Barbary (4 August 1899 – 16 September 2004) was the last known Belgian veteran of the First World War. He was born in Klerken in West Flanders. He served on the Western Front in the (''2de Linieregiment'') for the last months of the war, between May 1918 and January 1919. Barbary worked as a mason and emigrated to the United States with his wife Emma in 1923. The couple had three children. He visited Belgium for the last time in 1997. As a result of his emigration, he was ignored by official commemorations of the last surviving veterans in Belgium. Paul Ooghe was widely reported to have been the last surviving Belgian veteran at the time of his death in 2001. Barbary died in Detroit on 16 September 2004 at the age of 105. Cyriel Coupe
Cyriel Paul Coupé (1918–1998) was a Belgian diocesan priest, teacher, writer and poet, also known by the pseudonym Anton van Wilderode. Life Coupé was born in Moerbeke-Waas on 28 June 1918. He was ordained as a priest on 21 May 1944 in the Diocese of Ghent. He graduated in Classical philology at the Catholic University of Leuven. From 1946 until his retirement in 1982, he worked as a teacher in Sint-Niklaas at the St. Joseph Minor Seminary. Among his pupils were Paul Snoek and Tom Lanoye. He made his literary debut in 1939, with the short story ''Dis al'' ("This is all") in the magazine ''Nederland''. His debut as a poet followed in 1943, with the collection of poems ''De moerbeitoppen ruischten'' ("The mulberries rustled"). He was cofounder of the magazine ''Podium'' (1943–1944). Cyriel Kolawole Dessers (born 8 December 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a forward for club Cremonese. Born in Belgium, he plays for the Nigeria national team. Cyriel (also spelled Cyrille) Geerinck (5 August 1889 – 19 October 1955) was a Flemish educator, poet, writer and stage director. He was active as a teacher in the Waasland. He studied pedagogy at the St. Joseph Minor Seminary in Sint-Niklaas. In 1909 he started working in the municipal primary school of Waasmunster, where he taught until the 1945-1946 school year. Cyriel Marie Antoine Pennartz (born October 7, 1963) is a Dutch neuroscientist serving as professor and head of the Department of Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He is known for his research on memory, motivation, circadian rhythms, perception and consciousness. Pennartz’ work uses a multidisciplinary combination of techniques to understand the relationships between distributed neural activity and cognition, including ''in vivo'' electrophysiology and optical imaging, animal behavior and computational modelling.
