Cypress Hills (electoral District)
Cypress Hills is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in the extreme southwest corner of the province, this constituency was formed by the ''Representation Act, 1994'' (Saskatchewan) through combining the districts of Shaunavon, Maple Creek, and portions of Swift Current. The district has an economy based on agriculture, cattle ranching and major oil and gas production. The constituency also contains the Great Sand Hills in its northern areas and Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park. A near-complete ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' skeleton – one of only 12 in the world – was found near the town of Eastend. The largest communities include Maple Creek and Shaunavon with populations of 2,270 and 1,775 respectively. Fox Valley ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Fox Valley No. 171 and Census Division No. 8. Fox Valley is located just off Highway 21, approximately 64 kilometres north of Maple Creek and 51 kilometres south of Leader in the southwest region of the province. The early settlers of the village and surrounding area included many Germans from Russia (mainly from the Beresan region near Odessa). Saskatchewan Party
The Saskatchewan Party is a centre-right political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Since 2007, it has been the province's governing party; both the party and the province are currently led by Premier Scott Moe. The party was established in 1997 by a coalition of former provincial Progressive Conservative and Liberal party members and supporters who sought to remove the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) from power. The Saskatchewan Party served as the province's Official Opposition until the provincial election on November 7, 2007. The Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan is a conservative political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Prior to 1942, it was known as the Conservative Party of Saskatchewan. Jack Goohsen
Jack Goohsen (born November 7, 1942) is a farmer and former political figure in Saskatchewan, Canada. Goohsen was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan and studied agricultural management at the University of Saskatchewan. He established a farm in the Gull Lake area. He served on the council for the rural municipality of Carmichael, serving as reeve from 1981 to 1992, and was elected to represent Maple Creek in the 1991 Saskatchewan general election and again in the new Cypress Hills district in the 1995 Saskatchewan general election to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Progressive Conservative. In the spring of 1997, Goohsen was criminally charged after he was accused of trying to buy sex from a 14-year-old girl. 1917 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1917 Saskatchewan general election was held on June 26, 1917, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. After replacing Walter Scott as leader of the Liberal Party of Saskatchewan and premier of the province, William M. Martin led the party to its fourth consecutive victory, winning all but 8 of the 59 seats in the legislature. The Conservative Party of Wellington Willoughby continued to lose popular support. This was the first Saskatchewan election in which women were allowed to vote and run for office. However, none were declared elected in this vote; the first Saskatchewan woman elected an MLA was after a 1918 by-election. Cypress is a former provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. This district was created before the 3rd Saskatchewan general election in 1912 as "Gull Lake". Since the district encompassed most of the Saskatchewan side of the Cypress Hills, the riding was renamed "Cypress" in 1917. Redrawn and renamed "Shaunavon" before 1934, the constituency was abolished before the 9th Saskatchewan general election in 1938. It is now part of the Cypress Hills and Wood River constituencies.
