Cynon Valley Party
The Cynon Valley Party (Welsh: ''Plaid Cwm Cynon'') is a political party formed in 2016 to campaign for people living in the Cynon Valley, including the towns of Aberdare and Mountain Ash, in Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales. The party won a council seat on Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council in May 2017. The Cynon Valley Party was founded in September 2016 by two Aberdare businessmen, Andrew Chainey and Graham Marsh. It was registered with the Electoral Commission on 13 September 2016. The party held its first meeting on 20 September, with membership open to anyone concerned about local issues affecting the Cynon Valley, regardless of their support of the wider policies of national parties. Initial concerns raised included local transport links, such as the proposed Northern Cross Valley Link and Southern Cross Valley Link road to Mountain Ash. Welsh ( or ) is a Celtic language family, Celtic language of the Brittonic languages, Brittonic subgroup that is native to the Welsh people. The 2022 Rhondda Cynon Taf election took place on 5 May 2022 to elect 54 members across 46 wards to Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. Cynon Valley
Cynon Valley () is a former coal mining valley in Wales. Cynon Valley lies between Rhondda and the Merthyr Valley and takes its name from the River Cynon. Aberdare is located in the north of the valley and Mountain Ash is in the south of the valley. From 1974 to 1996 Cynon Valley was a local government district. According to the 2001 census, the Cynon Valley has a population of 63,512. In 2001 12.1% of the inhabitants were recorded as Welsh speakers. In common with some of the other South Wales Valleys, Cynon Valley had a high percentage of Welsh speakers until the early 20th century. Penrhiw-ceibr (formerly Penrhiwceiber) is the name of an electoral ward in the Cynon Valley, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. Its boundaries are coterminous with the village and community of Penrhiwceiber. The ward elects two councillors to Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. Background Penrhiwceiber was created in 1898 as a ward to Mountain Ash Urban District Council.
