Cynodonteae
Cynodonteae is a large tribe of grasses in the subfamily Chloridoideae, with over 800 species. Like most of the subfamily, species in the tribe are adapted to warm, arid climates and use the C4 photosynthetic pathway, with the exception of ''Eleusine indica''. Some species, such as Bermuda grass (''Cynodon dactylon'') or goosegrass (''Eleusine indica''), are widespread weeds, introduced in many countries. Most of the 94 genera are classified in one of 21 subtribes, but some are still unplaced (''incertae sedis ' () or ''problematica'' is a term used for a taxonomic group where its broader relationships are unknown or undefined. Alternatively, such groups are frequently referred to as "enigmatic taxa". In the system of open nomenclature, uncertainty ...'') within the tribe. Chloridoideae
Chloridoideae is one of the largest subfamilies of grasses, with roughly 150 genera and 1,600 species, mainly found in arid tropical or subtropical grasslands. Within the PACMAD clade, their sister group are the Danthonioideae. The subfamily includes widespread weeds such as Bermuda grass (''Cynodon dactylon'') or goosegrass (''Eleusine indica''), but also millet species grown in some tropical regions, namely finger millet (''Eleusine coracana'') and teff (''Eragrostis tef''). With the exception of some species in ''Ellisochloa'' and Eleusine indica, most of the subfamily's species use the C4 photosynthetic pathway. The first evolutionary transition from C3 to C4 photosynthesis in the grasses probably occurred in this subfamily, around 32 to 25 million years ago in the Oligocene. Phylogeny Relationships of tribes in the Chloridoideae according to a 2017 phylogenetic classification, also showing the Danthonioideae as sister group: The following genera have not been assigned t ...

Eleusine Indica
''Eleusine indica'', the Indian goosegrass, yard-grass, goosegrass, wiregrass, or crowfootgrass, is a species of grass in the family Poaceae. It is a small annual grass distributed throughout the warmer areas of the world to about 50 degrees latitude. It is an invasive species in some areas. ''Eleusine indica'' is closely related to ''Eleusine coracana'' (finger millet or African finger millet), and the diploid ''E. indica'' is likely an ancestor of the allotetraploid ''E. coracana''. Seeds of ''E. indica'' are edible and are sometimes used as a famine food, but yields are low. It is an important weed of cultivated crops, lawns, and golf courses. It thrives in disturbed areas with compacted soils in full sun. Both tillage and herbicides are used in its control. This low-growing grass is capable of setting seed even when closely mown. Some populations have evolved resistance to certain herbicides, including glyphosate Glyphosate (IUPAC name: ''N''-(phosphonomethyl) ...

Astrebla
''Astrebla'' is a small genus of xerophytic (adapted to survive in an environment with little liquid water) grasses found only in Australia. They are the dominant grass across much of the continent. They are commonly known as Mitchell grass after Scottish explorer, Thomas Mitchell (1792-1855), who first collected a specimen near Bourke in New South Wales. Mitchell grasses grow on clay soils, mainly between an upper limit of and a lower limit of average annual rainfall, and at even lower rainfall in depressions where the water concentrates following rains, for example in Sturt's Stony Desert. Mitchell grasses are deep-rooted and become dormant during drought, allowing them to survive extended periods without rainfall. They are commonly found clumped together and reaching one metre high, providing habitat for organisms such as mammals. ; Species See also * List of Poaceae genera The true grasses ( Poaceae) are one of the largest plant families, with around 12,000 species ...
