Cycling At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Team Sprint
The women's team sprint event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 2 August 2021 at the Izu Velodrome. 16 cyclists (8 teams of 2) from 8 nations competed. Background This was the 3rd appearance of the event, which has been held at every Summer Olympics since 2012. The reigning Olympic champions are Gong Jinjie and Zhong Tianshi of China. The reigning (2020) World Champions are Pauline Grabosch and Emma Hinze of Germany. Russia, Germany, China, Great Britain, Australia, and the Netherlands are traditionally strong track cycling nations. Qualification A National Olympic Committee (NOC) could enter up to 1 team of 2 cyclists in the women's team sprint. Quota places are allocated to the NOC, which selects the cyclists. Qualification is entirely through the 2018–20 UCI nation rankings. The eight top NOCs on the ranking list qualified for the team sprint event. Izu Velodrome
The Izu Velodrome is a velodrome in Shizuoka, Japan. It has a 250-metre cycling track and spectator facilities for 3,600 people. It was opened in 2011, and was selected as the venue to host the track cycling events at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Simona Krupeckaitė (born 13 December 1982) is a Lithuanian former professional track cyclist. She is the 2009 500 m Time Trial World Champion and World Record holder at 33.296s, and the 2010 Keirin World Champion. She also won the 2009, 2010 and 2016 Lithuanian Sportsperson of the Year award. In 2010 Krupeckaitė reached one more world record. This time she achieved 10.793 s record at Flying 200 m time trial event.
