Cycling At The 2018 Summer Youth Olympics
Cycle sport, Cycling at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 7 to 17 October. The events took place at the Parque Tres de Febrero in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Format For the Youth Olympics instead of competitors competing separately they compete as a team. In the boys' and girls' combined team event two athletes compete together. The event contains five stages; three road events (road race, criterium and time trial) and two cross-country events (cross-country eliminator and short track). One member of each team competes in each stage with the exception of the road race where both cyclists compete. Two mixed BMX events (racing and freestyle park) will take place with each team containing one boy and one girl. The freestyle park event will contain a team of athletes from different nations. Parque Tres de Febrero, popularly known as Bosques de Palermo (Palermo Woods), is an urban park of approximately 400 hectares (about 989 acres) located in the neighborhood of Palermo in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Located between Libertador and Figueroa Alcorta Avenues, it is known for its groves, lakes, and rose gardens (''El Rosedal''). Laura Stigger (born 25 September 2000) is an Austrian racing cyclist. She won the women's junior road race at the 2018 UCI Road World Championships and the junior Mountain Bike race (XCO) event at the 2018 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. She also won the junior Mountain Bike race (XCO) event at the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. To date, Stigger is the only cyclist to win both the Road World Championship and the Mountain Bike World Championship in the same year, winning both titles within twenty-two days. The former was only her second road race ever. In 2017 and 2018, she won every Junior Mountain Bike race she participated in, a total of 26 races, with most of them at international level.
