Cycling At The 2016 Summer Paralympics – Women's Individual Pursuit B
The women's Individual Pursuit B track cycling event at the 2016 Summer Paralympics took place on September 11. This class is for blind and visually impaired cyclists riding with a sighted pilot. Fourteen pairs from 10 different nations compete. The competition began with seven head to head races between the 14 riders. These races were held over a 3000m course (12 laps of the standard velodrome) and each rider is given a time for their race. The fastest two riders are advanced to the gold medal final whilst the third and fourth fastest times race it out for the bronze. The medal finals are held on the same day as the heats. Rio Olympic Velodrome
The Rio Olympic Velodrome, officially the Velódromo Municipal do Rio (''Rio Municipal Velodrome''), is a velodrome located in the Barra Olympic Park sports complex in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Built as a replacement for the former Barra Velodrome, the venue hosted track cycling events during the 2016 Summer Olympics, and is scheduled to host track cycling events during the 2016 Summer Paralympics. After the conclusion of the games, the velodrome will form part of the Olympic Training Center. Design The Rio Olympic Velodrome was designed by Schuermann Architects, a German design group led by Ralph Schuermann. The group had previously designed the Laoshan Velodrome for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, along with six other Olympic cycling venues and twenty World Championship venues. Madison Janssen (born 13 November 1994) is an Australian cyclist. She is a world champion, multiple national champion and a world record holder. In May 2016 she was named as part of the Australian cycling team as the sighted pilot for Jessica Gallagher for the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, where they won a bronze medal in the Women's 1000m time trial. Personal Madison Janssen was born in Queensland on 13 November 1994, the youngest of three children. She began BMX riding when she was five years old, after seeing her father and brother playing around on bicycles. Career She won national championships in her age division in 2004, 2007 and 2008. She was runner-up at the UCI BMX World Championships in her age division in 2003 in Perth, and 2008 in Taiyuan, China, before winning in the 17 and over division at the 2013 UCI BMX World Championships in Auckland in 2013.
