Curtis Robert Macdonald
Curtis Macdonald (also known as Curtis Robert Macdonald) is a composer and saxophonist. He moved to New York City in 2003 and lives in Brooklyn. He is Faculty at The New School for Jazz. Macdonald has a background in sound design and draws inspiration from this in his work. In 2015 he won a Peabody Award for his work on the show Meet The Composer at WQXR and was the Technical Director of The Open Ears Project from WNYC Studios that was named one of The Best 50 Podcasts of 2019 from the Atlantic Magazine that was also Nominated for Best Music Podcast and Honored for Best Series in the 24th Annual Webby Awards. To date he has composed original scores for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Aszure Barton, Kate Weare Company and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago among others. Henry Threadgill
Henry Threadgill (born February 15, 1944) is an American composer, saxophonist and flautist. He came to prominence in the 1970s leading ensembles rooted in jazz but with unusual instrumentation and often incorporating other genres of music. He has performed and recorded with several ensembles: Air, Aggregation Orb, Make a Move, the seven-piece Henry Threadgill Sextett, the twenty-piece Society Situation Dance Band, Very Very Circus, X-75, and Zooid. He was awarded the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Music for his album ''In for a Penny, In for a Pound'', which premiered at Roulette Intermedium on December 4, 2014 Career Threadgill performed as a percussionist in his high-school marching band before taking up baritone saxophone, alto saxophone, and flute. The Pulitzer Prize () is an award for achievements in newspaper, magazine, online journalism, literature, and musical composition within the United States. It was established in 1917 by provisions in the will of Joseph Pulitzer, who had made his fortune as a newspaper publisher, and is administered by Columbia University. Prizes are awarded annually in twenty-one categories. In twenty of the categories, each winner receives a certificate and a US$15,000 cash award (raised from $10,000 in 2017). Hubbard Street Dance Chicago is a contemporary dance company based in Chicago. Hubbard Street performs in downtown Chicago at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance and at the Edlis Neeson Theater at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Kate Weare is an American choreographer. She is the founder and artistic director of the Kate Weare Company. Early life and education Weare was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She attended the California Institute of the Arts, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1994. Aszure Barton is a Canadian-born choreographer. Career Aszure Barton was born and raised in Alberta, Canada. She received her formal training at the National Ballet School in Toronto, where, as a student, she helped originate the ongoing Stephen Godfrey Choreographic Showcase.
