Curtis Boozman
Curtis Earl Boozman Sr. (July 24, 1898 – April 22, 1979) was an American politician. He served as a Democratic Party (United States), Democratic member of the Louisiana House of Representatives. Boozman served in the National Guard (United States), national guard at the Mexico–United States border, Mexican border from 1916. In 1952, Boozman was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives. He left office in 1956, but returned for a second term from 1960 to 1964. He was given the M. C. Gehr Blue Cap Award by the American Legion. Boozman died in April 1979 at the Natchitoches Parish Hospital in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, at the age of 80. Natchitoches ( ; french: link=no, Les Natchitoches) is a small city and the parish seat of Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, United States. Established in 1714 by Louis Juchereau de St. Denis as part of French Louisiana, the community was named after the indigenous Natchitoches people. The City of Natchitoches was incorporated on February 5, 1819, after Louisiana had become a state in 1812. It is the oldest permanent settlement in the land acquired by the Louisiana Purchase. Natchitoches is home to Northwestern State University. Its sister city is Nacogdoches, Texas. Natchitoches Parish (french: Paroisse des Natchitoches or ) is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. As of the 2010 census, the population was 39,566. The parish seat is Natchitoches. The parish was formed in 1805. The Natchitoches, LA Micropolitan Statistical Area includes all of Natchitoches Parish. This is the heart of the Cane River Louisiana Creole community, free people of color of mixed-race descent who settled here in the antebellum period. Their descendants continue to be Catholic and many are still French-speaking. The Cane River National Heritage Area includes the parish.
