Curt Meyer
Curt Meyer (19 November 1919 – 18 April 2011) was a German mathematician. He made notable contributions to number theory. A native of Bremerhaven, Meyer obtained his doctorate from the Humboldt University of Berlin in 1950, under supervision of Helmut Hasse. In 1966 he became professor of mathematics at the University of Cologne, a position he held until 1985. Bremerhaven (, , Low German: ''Bremerhoben'') is a city at the seaport of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, a state of the Federal Republic of Germany. It forms a semi-enclave in the state of Lower Saxony and is located at the mouth of the River Weser on its eastern bank, opposite the town of Nordenham. ''Crelle's Journal'', or just ''Crelle'', is the common name for a mathematics journal, the ''Journal für die reine und angewandte Mathematik'' (in English: ''Journal for Pure and Applied Mathematics''). In mathematics, the Gauss class number problem (for imaginary quadratic fields), as usually understood, is to provide for each ''n'' ≥ 1 a complete list of imaginary quadratic fields \mathbb(\sqrt) (for negative integers ''d'') having class number ''n''.
