Curling At The 2014 Winter Olympics – Women's Tournament
The women's curling tournament of the 2014 Winter Olympics was held at the Ice Cube Curling Center in Sochi, Russia on 10–20 February 2014. Ten nations competed in the round robin preliminary round, and the top four nations at the conclusion of the round robin qualified for the medal round. South Korea made their Olympic debut in curling. A new Olympic record was established when Great Britain scored seven points in one end against the United States. Great Britain also equalled the record for total points scored in one game, scoring twelve points against the United States and against Japan. Canada, skipped by Jennifer Jones, became the first women's rink to go through an Olympic tournament undefeated. Great Britain, by winning the bronze medal became the youngest rink to ever step onto an Olympic curling podium. Ice Cube Curling Center
The Ice Cube Curling Center ( rus, Керлинговый Центр Ледяной куб) is a 3,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Sochi, Russia, that opened in 2012. It is a component of the Sochi Olympic Park. It hosted all the curling events at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the wheelchair curling events at the 2014 Winter Paralympics. It cost $14.0 million to build the venue, including the temporary works for the Olympics and Paralympics. It opened in 2012. After the 2014 games, it will remain a sports arena. Maria Poulsen (born 29 October 1984) is a Danish curler. She currently plays lead for the Lene Nielsen rink. Poulsen was the lead on the Denise Dupont rink that finished 9th place at the 2001 World Junior Curling Championships. Jeanne Ellegaard
Jeanne Ellegaard (born July 2, 1987) is a Danish curler. Career Ellegaard was a member of the Danish team that won a silver medal at the 2005 European Youth Olympic Festival. She played second for Madeleine Dupont. At the 2006 World Junior Curling Championships, Ellegaard was the alternate player for Nielsen's bronze medal-winning team. The following year, she won another bronze medal, this time throwing third rocks for Madeleine Dupont at the 2007 World Junior Curling Championships. Helle Simonsen (born 7 September 1984 in Hvidovre) is a Danish curler. Career In 2001, she represented Denmark for the first time, playing third for Denise Dupont. The team qualified for the 2001 World Junior Curling Championships, where they finished 9th. They did not manage to qualify again until the 2004 World Junior Curling Championships, when Simonsen played second for the rink (now skipped by Madeleine Dupont. Denmark finished 6th. Lene Nielsen (born 31 August 1986 in Hvidovre) is a Danish curling, curler. She was the skip of the 2014 Danish Olympic Curling Team. Career Nielsen played in her first international events in 2004, as an alternate for the Madeleine Dupont rink. Even though she was an alternate, she played many games. At the 2004 World Junior Curling Championships, the team finished 6th and at the 2004 Ford World Women's Curling Championship they finished in 8th.
